| Post subject: | Sound system opinions & my pix of rear speaker installt' |
I started watching this topic : LINK :, and I wanted to hear your suggestions for simple and quality sound setup. I have Kenwood X590: you can check the specs here: LINK and I have stock premium sound setup. I love the sound I am getting on the fronts, not loud enough, but at "listenable" levels it's got nice bass and treble, the rears are not loud enough, but I was thinking of getting rid of the whole system, maybe sell the speakers to someone who blew their stocks. I just need a nice sound system that will go with my head unit and will give me louder and clearer sound on high volume. I just want to hear from those who replaced their stock Premium system. I know about the amp setup, etc. So I wouldn't mind getting speakers first using built-in amp first, or consider amp as well and get better sound then the stock system. Any suggestions? ================================= , I tried a new set of speakers for the rear, here is the story. This is the stock speaker connection, very much like the phone jack.
I am testing the speaker...
It only looks good, but it didn't sound as good as I expected...
Oh crap, it didn't come with a bracket adapter, what to do what to do... it is very small, ok.. we need to buy a bracket..
A trip to the store and $20 later, I got a bracket. Exact fit, Chrysler adapter bracket.
The clip that didn't come out, instead it came apart from the place it is supposed to be held by on the panel....
I tried to remove it with hand, and OUCH...
in the end, now there is a little gap there, because I didn't want to fiddle with the clip, I should have removed it and put it back into its little place on the trim panel, but I was cold, my finger hurt and I wanted to get done with it already.
I put the stock speaker back -- the kenwood didn't sound good enough, it had nice treble, but not enough bass..... |

I popped off the back door panels and hooked up a pair of 2 way Kove audio 6.5" mids. These were patched into my premium infinity sound system off of the stock head unit and front speaker amps. I was so upset by the sound they produced, I stuck the stockers back in. No bass total distortion when turned up. Three weeks later, and it is finally warm enough outside to gut the Jeep. I pulled all the speakers out of the Jeep. Then pulled all of the trim panels and seats out of the back. I pulled new 16ga speaker wire to all of the doors from the cargo area and installed new patch cables from the front to the back. New head unit, new amps, new subs, and highs. I've got the same Kove's back in the same doors, and I'm glad I Dynamatted the insides of the doors, as they are ten times louder than the Infinity's. The only thing I can think of is that there is an impedance difference between the premium Infinity and aftermarket speakers that the Infinity amp does not like. Plus, I don't know if the stock is wired in series or parallel and that'll make a difference too. If you look at the Infinity premium speaker, its got like a 10oz magnet and paper surrounds. Any aftermarket mid usually has a poly or rubber surround and a much larger magnet and power handling limit. I think your issue is lack of power coming from the Infinity amps. Plus, I know in my '02 Sport, the speakers were really broken in. You'll need to give the new ones time to adjust as well. |

hi there, thanks for the comment. You know I almost went with RA700, but ended up getting Kenwood because of the USB. Never heard about Kove's before, were you able to mount the tweeters in original place, did you have to do any fabrication? I just keep thinking that if I spend a lot of money on a new system and if it will sound just a bit better than stock premium system, why go through the hassle? I was thinking of just getting a sub back there, and that's it. But since you upgraded from premium and think that it is a huge difference, I might go back to drawing board. I always thought that rear speaker placement was really bad, muffling all the sound, that's why I was thinking of a way to put another pair back by the cargo area.. |

The dash bezel was a pain to get out, I was afraid I was going to shatter it I was pulling on it so hard. The "tweeters" are really 2.5" high speakers. There is plenty of room to mount aftermarket tweeters in the holes. There really is not much info on Kove Audio. They used to be really big, and produced some good subs. I got my stuff from a local dealer after hearing them compared to Fosgates and Polks brand of componenets. The Kove's put out as much bass as a pair of old Punch Power 8's I had. They're pretty decently priced too. (I got mine free after as a perk for purchasing some other equipment, but I still would have purchased them over the others) |

It is also another hassle that you need to remove whole lot of parts before working on the dash like the handles and pillar cover, etc.. Everything on the jeep that is held by clips seem to be in place very tightly.. Thanks. |

I also noticed a drop in bass on the rear speakers when I put my MTX speakers in. It doesnt really matter though, I turn the HPF on and put all the bass on the sub.. |

I would just get a nice set of component speakers upfront. Diamond Audio is my prefered speaker. I took my rear speakers out, don't need them unless you want them for the back passengers. As for me I don't care much for factory systems so I went all out on mine, but I compete with it so thats a bit different. I have pic on the carstereo.com link in my sig if you want to check it out |

on the back there, i popped out each of those white plastic things with needle nose pliers, and inserted them into the piece, and then popped them back in with the piece attached to the white plastic things. |
