| Post subject: | KJ Gauges and overhead display not working |
I've got an '04 Liberty Limited with about 75K miles and a while back all the gauges and the overhead display stopped working. Sometimes it works (on cold mornings, first start), but not for long (couple of minutes, very rare). The overhead display reads "no J1850 bus messages recieved". I took it to a garage the other day and their code reader said it was a bad relay circuit. Well he checked all the relays and fuses then reset the code. The very next code came up as "lost communication with gauge cluster" and he recommended replacing the cluster, so I replaced the gauge cluster with one from another '04, but that didn't help. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this problem before and could give me some pointers as to what it may be. I hope this makes some sense. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance, Jason P.S. I did notice a similar problem someone was having with their speedometer on this site, but wasn't sure if that could be the same bunch of wires causing my problems. |

Sorry to hear that, but I know exactly what it is. The exact same thing happened to my Dodge Ram (they have the same console, guages, etc etc) For some reason, the occasional DCX product has a confliction in the electrical system. This manifests as first, the guages go.....second, the overhead console goes..... The next thing that happened to me is that the ABS motor shorted, then the engine management computer. The entire electrical system shorted out, on a 2003! I was so pissed that I forced the dealership to refund my money 8 months and 10k miles later. I sincerely hope that this does not happen to you, but you need to get that fixed asap before the electrical gremlins start affecting other components..... |

Dang! I really was hoping to avoid going to a dealer, but my wife and kids are in it everyday and I would hate for anything to happen to them. Thanks for the info. |
