| Post subject: | HOW TO INSTALL AN IPOD |
1) Buy the kit you need from www.mp3yourcar.com What you get will look like this... You may be able to find the same exact kit cheaper on ebay
NOTE your stereo connector might look different than this pic....Open your hood and disconnect the black battery cable (VERY IMPORTANT) 2) Remove your stock radio like this
When you remove the dash trim piece, don't unplug anywires, just pull it down.
I used a soft plastic spatula, starting at the top, to pry it off. It is only held on with four clips. I used a couple of soft cloths to keep from scratching anything. Same with the radio, remove the philips head screws, pull the radio out but dont unplug anything. Just gently set it down on the back of the trim.
3) Look at the back of your radio. This will only work on the radios that have cd changer port by the way. You will see a large bundle on the left side, and the antenna plug on the right. Find the large bundle...you will see the square empty CD changer port right beside it. That is what you will plug the iPod module into using the included wire.
4) Take the white module in the kit, and plug it into the short black wire. At this time, read the instructions on the dip switch to make sure you have the correct ones "on" and "off". Plug this into the radio. If you look inside the dash where the radio fits into, look 6 inches to the left, toward the steering wheel. You will see a flat place that is perfect to set the module. This is what I recommend, its perfect. If you want, use some double sided tape here.
5) Before you install the white wire, go back to your dash trip piece. Unplug the cigarette lighter and tuck the wire into the back of the dash. You won't need it anymore (unless you do, then just run the wire somewhere else) Remove the exterior black ring from the element (this will keep the white wire from falling back in the dash) Run the small end of the white wire (the one that plugs into the back of the control module) through this, and up to the module, and plug it in. 6) Wind up all the extra cord, bundle it tightly, and place it on the flat part of the dash trim where the vacuum hoses are. This is perfect and will prevent any rattling of the wires.
7) Reinstall everything in reverse order, and reconnect your battery cable. This is what it should look like when complete
Then plug your ipod in. You will need to change the radio over to CD changer to hear it, but immediately after plugging it in you should see it turn on and charge. Enjoy your new hardwired iPod! |

Good writeup, but it is expensive? I would get an aftermarket unit that supports USB, not just stupid iPod interface. Oh wait, that is what i did |

Its a good system that has great sound, super easy to install, and best yet it still lets you control your ipod from its own controls. I like it. Its also easily transferable to another vehicle (all you need is the right wire harness) |

Thanks. Its a good system. I love that you can still control the ipod no problem, because I often want to hear a particular song or CD, etc etc. Because this is so simple, and it is hardwired right in, I never have any problems. Enjoy! BTW let me know how your install goes. |
