I'm looking to get my hands on a CB that has more control over gain and is a box unit. I have the Cobra 75WXST, but it's noisy for me, and the mic is too heavy to mount where I like it mounted.

For those of you with box units, where are you mounting them, and what type do you have? I've thought to maybe even drill holes in the roof and mount it above the center storage console, but am not sure how much work this would take and what can be drilled into.

Thanks.

OK, its not a CB radio per-se; I have an Alinco DX-70 amatuer radio that I have modified to broadcast on 11 meters (CB freqs). The main radio is mounted under the drivers seat and the remote head is mounted below the dome lights:

On models with EVICs this might be a problem, since I mounted it where the display would be. If nescessary I could relocate it to the dash or lower console. I also have a VHF/UHF radio installed on the side of the console:

It has done just fine there, but I have seen some people putting a piece of sheet metal behind the console to help with mounting (it is just plastic).

I like your setup. very nice.

I do have an EVIC though.

I wonder if there's any room for something next to the DC power jack. Has anyone found a cb that will install there? I have a manual transmission, so I'd still need to be able to shift.

This link may help. If you scroll half way down the page, you'll find a post with a CB in that little space next to the power port. Looks like a Radio Shack to me. Sure is small! http://www.jeepkj.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=853

Guess I should have signed in first. Here's a link to the CB, couldn't tell you if it's any good or not. What do I know, I use a handheld. CB
