| Post subject: | Mopar light bar |
I am just wondering how many watts the lights are on the OEM light bar. I haven't seen any data or posts on this, and searching didn't yield anything. Mopar's website doesn't say beans about it, and neither does jparts.com. Also, how easy is it to replace the bulbs? Any ideas on cost to replace/upgrade bulbs? I'm looking to get one secondhand- most likely a local junkyard. Any other suggestions? Any good reasons not to get the OEM type? Thanks. |

The lights inside the light bar are nothing more than 2007 style headlight bulbs. You can replace them with Silverstars or any aftermarket headlight for that matter. It's very easy to replace the bulbs. There are 4 screws that will allow you to remove the cover, then you'll have access to the bulbs. |

I think the lights are 55W, and they work great. Keep an eye on ebay, every now and then a cheap will sell. Stephen |

I'll echo SoDak's question. Also, do most people with the homemade setups run a straight switch (as it appears the OEM kit does) or do you run the lights off a relay? |

Running a relay will help prevent a possiable fire. |

I am planning to run hellas on the roof, are there any reports of fires or big problems with Hella set up as it comes in box (relays, switches, etc..() |

With the amount of wattage and amperage going to those roof lights, you MUST run a relay. Unless you don't want the light from them going past your hood anyway. A relays job is not to prevent a fire, but to provide a switched accessory power straight from the battery without a constant draw from the battery when the accessory is not operating. Without the relay, the lights would be so dim, you'd barely notice they were on. Check THIS out. By the way, IIRC, the total wattage for the light bar is 55,000 candlepower - or 4 headlights worth of power, anyway. |

awesome... thanks for the diagram. i've been looking for the right way to run a ground-on relay for my driving lights because i hear that's the best way when you're flipping on that much power. |

Does anyone have an idea where I might find a light bar from a wrecked Liberty? I've called several places around town (Denver), but nobody has the Renegades. I've searched www.junkyarddog.com and www.usedpartscentral.com and struck out there too. eBay didn't have anything under $375 + shipping. Sir Sam directed me to a place north of Denver called Jeeps Unlimited (www.jeepsunlimited.net), but they didn't have any either- and never have. <Dammit!> I'd much rather get one used than pay the $460 or whatever it is for a new one. Any help is appreciated. |

I'd much rather get one used than pay the $460 or whatever it is for a new one. Any help is appreciated. They are rare and did not come with all Renegades, only some of them. You can get them cheaper than 460 online, and the ebay one at 375 is not a bad deal. Interestingly enough, the NAXJA folks are putting these on XJ's and I saw a dullie at Home Despot the other day with one on top of his cab. Looked a little too narrow for the dullie's cab, but not too bad. It seems everyone is buying these. If you want one I would get it within the year as Jeep has a habit of dumping old model accessories when they discontinue manufacture of the model. |
