those hand held ones are nice, i was looking at them too. most people chime in say "well whene the handset breaks you have to replace the whole thing blah blah blah" as opposed to just replacing the handset, but if you arent tossing it on the floor and stuff i would thing it'd last awhile, plus its a cobra, which are pretty reputable.....also, i'm probably going to outbid you....sneaky sneaky |

I have it and it is great! No case to get in the way or take up space. I did a write-up on the install. look in the Fabrication section. |

I have it and it's great!!! There is a run down CB shop next to a truck stop here and the owner snubbed me because he said all Cobra's are junk (guess what he doesn't sell). Small minded dork!! |

Thing to remember is ANY CB will do Okay, most are pretty much the same as far as off the shelf that is. The most important item is the Antenna and it's placement. Great CB's aren't worth a crap with a cheap antenna and a poorly placed one. One that reaches above the roof of the car is critical. then get it tuned!!!! If you mount on the tire or the bumper, make sure it is long enough to stick up over the roof and any racks/lights on there. most people skimp on antennas. Tricky thing is to not be too tall that it gets ripped off by branches or pisses u off in every parking garage you go in. fine ballance but a very important one. |

I had a Cobra CB in my Miata (forget which one). It made it look like a quad or something because the anntenna was like 6 feet tall and the car was so tiny. It got signals from Japan with that thing going through the mountains. Shame I sold it with the car. On the other hand, I've had CB's that have a range of the front bumper with large antenna's. I guess quality is everything. |

Thats my point. I know guys who have tweeked their cbs to reach alaska (with side bands and a GREAT antenna you can too) after boosting the wattage output. BY LAW (and who pays attention to this) CB's can not be more than 3 watts. Or at least thats the way it used to be. So all CB's are off the shelf basicly the same. Like your stereo, the quality of the cables used has a lot to do with the quality of sound u get. get the best antenna cable and shaft you can afford. Have it mounted in a place that clears the roof and other obstacles and the have the standing wave tuned on the antenna. otherwise the best radio in the worl wont reach the bumper of the car infront of you. Like ur car, might as well get the best u can afford. You MIGHT even need it one day for something besides gabbing on a trail. I have always had Unidens. ALWAYS solid CB's, but haven't needed a new one in years. Johnson came out with the first ones in the 70's, spinn off from their watercraft radios i think. |

I have the 2970 in mine for now, it is big but with my antenna I can talk Hawaii and alaska most days. had to take my FT 100 out and send it back to the shop.It is antenna and placement. I have used several and still have Cobras and they are better than average . My FT 100 has the same controls as the cobra and the only diffrence was I could change bands and adjust the SWR to it with the antenna

WOW that antenna. I have seen some impressive ones. I would have mounted it on the passenger side so at least when the driver only is in the car it would counter balance the weight of the antenna and the mount. LOL Don't know anybody in Hawai, or Alaska for that matter. But cool none the less |
