I just picked up a secondhand CB radio - It's a midland, no frills, came with a magmount center-loaded antenna and mic - hey, it was only $20, what do you expect?
Anyway, it's time to install it - where should I pull the power from? It says it wants 13.8V, which leads me to believe I need to get it directly from the battery. Does the fusebox or cigarette lighter also carry 13.8? I thought they were rectified down to 12V, but I could be wrong (I've always just assumed car lighters were 12V). Suggestions on where to pull power
I use a "add-a-circuit" (the mini-fuse version) to get power from radio fuse (see the fuse chart to identify the location). This way it's only on when the car is running and doesn't drain battery accidentally if I should leave the hand unit on.
Nanette showed me a little hole under the steering column ... this is perfect for grounding my CB. I just needed to get a set of lock washers, nut and bolt and it just bolts right in. I used a couple of flat cable-tie holders to tie the loose wires down. The CB coax runs under the driver's seat, out to the side of the car under the panels, out to the back, out of the little hole in the opening and over and out under the rear swing gate.
Pictures if anybody wants it
