Hello guys and gals,
I'm looking into buying a cb for the jeep and have been leaning toward a hand held model. Any recomendations on what brand or what to look for before purchasing?
Thanks for any assistance.

alot of peeps here seem to like the Cobra 75 wx-st (myself included)

do a search here and you will find some good mounting tips (for the control box) and opinions

I went with the 75 wxst since it's so small and you don't need to mount a big ol' box anywhere. Cobra's just been around forever and do a good job with their stuff. It's super quick and easy to install and I like having easy access to to all the buttons and stuff instead of leaning over towards the box. The main thing I hear when people don't like it is that it is a lot heavier than the traditional ones. (Not like your arm will fall off of anything) I'm totally happy with it.

Same here-----Cobra 75W works great.

Look at my write-up and install: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/718416

AdamisAdam did a write-up before me but we did different placements of the connector box.

Ya gotta buy one separately. The antenna depends on where you want to place it. Length plays a role.

Firestik and Wilson are two popular antenna's. Many others out there.

I have a Radio shack hand held and it does well on the trails. I think I am going to upgrade to the Cobra all in 1 unit. I can't remember what model it is but everything is on the mike and you can hide the rest.

I went with a magmount antenna. I figure it's not going to be quite as good as the permanent mounted ants, but the only time I'd be using it is on the trail when the people I'm talking to are all within 200ft or so, so it's nice to be able to just entirely remove it if I need to.

I got a radioshack box, it just sits in the crack between the console and the passenger seat. I suppose I could mount it somewhere, but it stays where I put it pretty well.

The Cobra 75 is the all in one unit. This place has them $20 cheaper than Cobra's site. They're nice guys with quick shipping.

I have a Galaxy 929 with a 4 ft. Firestik Firefly antenna. Barefoot to barefoot it will outperform any Cobra. The downside of the Galaxy 929 is the size and price. Just make sure you set the SWR on any radio.

This place has it all- great customer service, good prices, and a large selection.

I had a problem with mine (I live the cobra BTW). Sent it back and they fixed no q's asked. 2 year warranty.

Also, my problem was that the internal speaker quit ON THE MORNING of the Jamboree! But I happened to have an FM modulater with me, so I plugged it in to the jack on the CB box and viola, CB over the FM radio! VERY COOL! I'm going to use it this way from now on. I can hear it MUUUUUUUUUCH better now!

No doubt, since you now have all of those speakers compared to the little 2-3" one on the CB :D

The 75W probably only has a 1/2" speaker.
