I got the idead from a few spots here, I can't find the threads now, but one was a video on U Tube of the CB behind the knee panel. The other was picts of the mounting brackets. I am pleasantly pleased at how mine came out. The hardest part was cutting the knee panel. But hey I went crazy with my dremel. Total install time 6 hours (over 2 days it started raining). That includes tuning the antenna.

This is the knee panel after the hole was cut but before anything else was done.

another view, notice the top right corner of the CB cut out. I got carried away with the dremel and messed it up a little.

This is a view with the panel open, I also put an external speaker in here on the left side of the steering colum (sorry no pict)

Another view with the panel open...

And for the antenna, I ran the coax inside the door seal and under the driver side wall then under the driver side sills to the dash. an 18 ft coax is about 2 feet to long. I used a 5 ft Fire Stick.

The antenna mount had to be bent to make the antenna straigt up and down, was easy to do. Here are the finished picts. I also installed a PA speaker under the hood on the passenger side. I might move it when I get the roof rack installed.

That little access hole is actually behind BOTH tail lights. I unsed the rubber grommet up above tail pipe. Same one used for the tow harness I think. Ran it inside and the side plastic pieces pull right off, and under the tail gate trim piece, up the drivers side and under the driver seat where my Cobra 75 is mounted.

I didn't know that hole was there. I might have to pull it apart and re-run the cable. Thanks for the info.

Yeah it looks like a great location./

Already has a soft rubber grommet and you are running the cable UP through it ao there is a very small risk of any water coming through as the cable creats a drip loop and then runs up. Water Don't Go UP!

good luck.

What kind of SWR are you seeing with that mount? I bought the same one and was going to mount it either in the same place, or about 4 inches lower and put a 3 foot firestick-II on it. I'm not sure if it will stick above the roofline enough, but I'd much prefer to scale down from the 4 foot firestick I have right now.

Also - what'd you have to do to mount that? Did you drill pilot holes and then just screw it in?

With the 5 ft Fire Stick and the HD spring, I was running right at 2 on the swr. But that was all before I installed the safari rack and that totally changed the plane. If I had it to do over again I would go with the 4 ft Fire Stick. The 5 ft sticks way out there and catches on every tree branch. Look at the last pict of mine and see how far above the roof it is...way up there.

A 3 foot might work, but I couldn't tell you what kind of SWR it will get.

2? darn.

I had a 1.1 or 1.2 with the mount I had on my hood. I was really hoping to get the antenna back in a reasonable location and keep it decent. I guess 2 is good enough for what I use it for.

I can't be sure but I think the reason my SWR is so high is because my CB is about 15 years old...and so is my SWR meter, so I am not totally sure either are perfect...
