OK folks, this probably will sound like a dumb question but i'd rather ask & do it right than waste $$$. So i am looking to install a Cobra 75WX-ST and Firestik combo. i would like to mount the Firestik in the OEM spot (using Firestiks' side mount kit). The question is . . . can the Firestik be used for the CB radio and the regular radio or must i have separate antennas? i know, dumb question. But in the army i always had commo guys to take care of my radio problems. TIA |

DO NOT USE THE FIRE STICK AS A DUEL ANT!!! 1) your swr's will never be flat 2)every time you xmit your RF will be going into your radio 3)your radio will whine really bad! 4)there is 100 diff ways to mount a cb ant. just find one you like and make it your own. 5)if that set up worked so well then why doesnt everyone do it??? (because it doesnt) 6) most of the time the am/fm spliter will fail and alow the RF to go right into your sterero punch a hole under your "trail rated" badge install your cb ant there, use a bumber mount. the spare tire mount looks way cool. If you have the $$$$ goto Texas towers on the web. they have a mount that with a push of a butten it folds the ant down flat on your roof so you can still park in the garage. push the button again and it rases it back up. |

As always, appreciate the responses guys. i was looking for that post last night & couldn't find it so thanx for the link. Think i'll follow skywarn's advice here though (sounds like you've had some experience) and just find a different mounting point for it. Will definately look into the mount you suggested. Thanx again to all! |

I have to disagree with you. I have had NO problems. I know of three of us on here that have this setup and I haven't heard any problems with their setup. I would suggest going with the Wilson Silver antenna and not the Firestik. Also, why would you run your radio and try to listen to people on the CB? I have enough trouble listening with the radio off. Your #5 is because others like doing things differently. The same as why doesn't everybody attach their antenna to the spare? Not everybody does it. It works though. |

I would second Tokyojoe's motion to go with a high quality whip antenna like Wilson, Maxrad, Sinclair etc. These antennas have base coils, so in addition to giving the best range, they'll help block noise from getting into the CB, and CB noise from getting into your AM/FM. IMO, they're also alot more durable than the fiberglass ones, where the wire tends to break where the fiberglass meets the mount. As far as I know these antennas only come with the NMO mount. This is the were the antenna screws onto and is the mount you will find on 99% of professional 2-way VHF, UHF and cellular antennas. The advantage of this is, once you have the mount, you can easily swap your antenna for, say, a cellular antenna and plug it into your cell phone (you'll need an adapter at the phone side). You can also cheat and get an NMO mag mount until you're brave enough make things permanant |

Wasn't your operation mobile enough? |
