Hey ya'll, So, I have been thinking about getting a GPS in the KJ for a while, and just wanted to know what people had, or knew about. I want it built in so I don' have to worry about taking it out of the KJ, and just don't want something else to sit on a seat taking up space. So, I want it built into the dash. I have been looking around, but everything I have seen comes out of the face of the dash, but I swear that I have seen one that popped UP out of the top of the dash. This allowed for a larger screen, but was short enought that it didn't block the view of the passenger fender. Any ideas? Sorry if I am a little scattered, I have been writing code for a while, and am a little twitchy.... thanks, stephen |

How much do you plan to spend? For something like you want, with folding out view (generally will have DVD player as well) I would say go with a touch-screen, but a real good one will run you at least $1500.. so I want you to know what you are getting into, in case if it is too expensive.. The problem with our jeeps you cannot get the one with screen built in, even if you do, those are just too small. Here is my favorite. It has touchscren: http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/ ... Sorry, forgot to say, yes, I do want a touch screen, and I am planning on spending a bit for something good. Thanks for the info. The one thing I really want is a large screen = easy to read while driving. I don't have a problem with going into the world of custom making a mount for the dash, it would be fun. Stephen |

I would be concerned about the durability of a flip out screen like that if you do a lot of wheeling. Thats a lot of vibration to handle.IMO Chris |

on some models, the screen can be retracted and the radio and cd player functions will still work, but dust can still get into the insides. if the nav has a hard drive, that cant be good for it... |

Well the only hard drive that may hold up is a solid state, although some are shock resistent. I want to be able to use my gps while wheeling, there for if you cant have it open, whats the point. Chris |

this is true. i think the only way to go then would be to get the factory in dash unit. its 1600 bucks i think, but that would probably be the best way to go. i dont think they have hard drives in them since they use dvd discs |
