Hey does anyone know if there are any hard wired removable GPS out there? IE like a tom-tom that I could have a mount permenantly installed in my car for? So this way if I travel I can take it with me.

Thanks!

Hard Wired GPS? Why do you want to hardwire portable GPS like TomTom..
Two choices...
1) Get TomTom or Garmin GPS with USA maps preloaded
2) Get in-dash GPS.

Does seem a bit of a contradictory statement. 'Hardwired' usually implies permanency, while 'portable' pretty much says the opposite, something you can stick in a pocket or bag and take along. I suppose you could put a permanent mount in your Jeep with a power cord routed to it so you could plug-'n-go, but the really sweet thing about the GPS units like the Tom-Tom or Garmin Streetpilot is they're ease of transferring from one vehicle to another. Or by 'hardwired' do you mean having the power cord permanently connected (not in the power outlet) and just taking the GPS out when not in use?

Just make sure you read the reviews! TomTom not so great. Magellan 3100 is a sweet deal for the money. It comes with a mount but can run mobile on battery as well. cnet.com is also a good place for reviews as well as digg.com. For whatever price range your looking for make sure you check the reviews.

Hi,

what I mean is something that has a permenant mount. Like a cell phone cradle. Where you can take it in and out of your car.

I had a tom-tom, it hated the way it mounted to the windshield. I liked being able take it into cars when traveling, but in my Jeep I want a more something with a more stable mount.

Here, this place is your friend for hard-mount clips for various devices.
