| Post subject: | Turn signal/ dome light question |
The other day my rear dome light flashed on when my turn signal clicked off after comming out of a turn. Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to fix it before it gets worse. Thanks for any info. I posted in the General Dis. area as well but thought maybe this would be a good place to check. |

I've had this problem before I've narrowed it down to the turn signal switch. |

I have same trouble. I'm comforted to know I'm not alone, I didn't think I would be. I'll start at the turn signal switch. I love trouble shooting an intermitant problem. |

I was having all kinds of quirky lighting gremlins pops their ugly heads up. I boiled it down to the switch after taking a 2000 mile road trip (1600 of which were covered after dark). Thankfully, it happened at 35k and I took it in and had the whole thing replaced under warranty (36k B2B warranty). All the gremlins are gone now, including the flickering headlights, ghosts in the dome light, and dimming guage lights. The stalk feels more substantial and doesn't *click* as much when it locks into position either. |

All the gremlins are gone now, including the flickering headlights, ghosts in the dome light, and dimming guage lights. The stalk feels more substantial and doesn't *click* as much when it locks into position either. After a lot of trial and error I think I can narrow it down to being the switch also. Get this. Now it is only my fog lights that flash, but only when I make a right hand turn. Left is all good. I guess my KJ is telling me it wants to be in NASCAR. Until I get the switch replaced I have solved the problem by not turning on the fog lights. |

My electrical gremlins were increased by the use of my fog lights too. The worst manifestation of the problems came when I was cruising down the interstate, headlights and foglights on, and "clicked" off the right turn signal (like after passing someone, "clicking" on the right turn signal as I got back in the slow lane, then tapping the top of the stalk to disable the blinking right-turn signal ["tapping" if OFF produced the gremlins]). My foglights would flicker off, then back on, and the headlights and gauge lights would dim noticeably at the same time. I could, theoretically call that a right turn. So it's possible your stalk has the same gremlins mine did. I like to run my foglights almost all the time and, since I was still under warranty, replacing the whole stalk was a great fix for me. However, I could certainly discuss the conceptual merits of replacing only the foglight switch on the stalk. I would, however, hazard a guess that it would be difficult to purchase just the foglight actuator for the stalk. I never priced/shopped the individual parts of the stalk though, so it's entirely possible that it's available. Good luck with your fix. If my gremlins return after my stalk replacement, I will let you know. |
