Post subject:  CB Questions

I'm interested in installing a CB in the Liberty, but I don't really know what all I need to buy, or where to buy it. :? I know that I want the Cobra 75W, and I would like to install it like AdamisAdam and Tokyojoe did. I read through their installs and have a general idea of what needs to be done, but I'm still not positive how you connect the new antenna to the unit inside the KJ. Is there already a wire coming from the antenna mount that you just connect the new parts to? Also, where exactly do you connect the power cable for the cb?

Also, if anyone could include a full parts list along with some good retailers for all of the parts I'd really appreciate it. Sorry for all the questions, it's just that I've done almost too much research on the topic over the last few days, so now I'm really confused lol. Thanks a lot guys.

basically, the cb comes with a small box. from that box you hook up a power and ground lead. there is also a connection for the antenna and handset coming off the box.

connect the antenna coax to the small box and run it to your antenna, hook up the power lead and ground, xonnect the handset and you are good to go (dont foget to adjust using a swr meter on the system before transmitting)

there is a pretty good mounting location for the box behind the drivers side kick panel

as far as parts list, you just need to buy the cb (comes with the little box) and an antenna kit. opinions vary but it is hard to go wrong with a firestick kit (comes with the mounting kit and coax) like this --> http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/KWFS-SGL.htm

dont have a pic handy, but imagine you are sitting in the drivers seat. look at your left foot. there is a small plastic kick plate there (the hood release is in the middle of it.

if you remove that piece of plastic (gotta pull up the trim piece along the inside of the door 1st), there is ametal grounding plate behind it. the box that comes with the cobra cb is so small it fits behind that plastic piece (bolt the box to the metal grounding plate) perfectly. you can also ground the box to that plate since it is mounted right there). then just run the lead from the box that the handset connects to up from behind the plastic piece covering the box (the kick plate) then you can hook up the handset when needed.

if you need a couple pics, let me know and i will try to take a couple tonight

Heres a write-up I did on getting thru the firewall; the first image shows the panel kevh is talking about: Firewall penetration. This will at least get you to the right spot. You can also find a link to this in the Tech Articles section.

I found the cheapest place to be Amazon.com when i bought it months and months ago. (Amazon changes the price all the time, so it might not be the best anymore)

sorry i spaced this guys...here are a couple pics of the mounting location o i used. you can see i hade to snip a small section out tof the slotted mounting hoe for the bolt to fit through but all has stayed tight. with the box in the location it is easy to run your antenna cable to the back of the vehicle through the trim along the door. the metal plate is for grounding and the power lead can be run forward to the rubber plug
