i have a set of hella rallye 4000 black magics, with 55w bulbs. do they make brighter bulbs (such as 100w's) that will swap in? |

They should be H3 bulbs.. If so, then yes they make 100W bulbs. I dont know how the wiring would like almost double the load, though.. EDIT: Appears they are H2 bulbs (yeah, I got curious and looked) Try these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002M9USE |

ok, now for you electrical engineers. if my harness is 14g wire (possibly 16g.. dont remember) can i run a 100w bulb safely? obviously ill need a larger fuse |

The amperage pull on the 100W bulbs will be 16.6 per pair. If lamps are all metal and the standard fuse is rated for 30 amps you should be good provided the bulbs don't exceed that on startup. If it's 20amps and/or your lamps have plastic then maybe but the extra heat might damage that plastic. If there isn't anyone that has done it then I would recommend contacting Hella and asking them. |

Hooold up! Just do what I'm doing here in a few days. I've gotta set of Hella's coming in that I'm going to be putting my old HID setup in. You can find HID conversion kits for any light anywhere from $50-100 on ebay. Do a google for something like 'hella hid conversion' You'll see alot of other forums where its been done. Its really as simple as putting the HID bulb in the Hella and wiring it all up. The light output w/ the HIDs will be much better than a 100w bulb can do. Plus HID's only take a few watts to run once they're on. |

Many people can't afford or don't want to spend $50-100 per light. I have had 100w H3 bulbs in my Hella 500's for several years with no issues. I use a separate 14 gauge wire per light. The glass lense does get hotter than with the 55w bulb but barely too hot to touch. The plastic housing only gets slightly warm - far too cool to melt anything. The reflector does an excellent job at keeping the heat away from the plastic. See my wiring of my lights/lightbar in my mods section at the link in my sig. John ];') |
