http://www.gijoesradioelectronics.com/

when i searched for reviews for them i found one claiming that the company didnt even exist, however the BBB has records for them back to 82 and theyve only had one complaint for refund since 07

the owner did get busted in 06 by the fcc for selling linear amps and suped up cb's and stuff

i crossed my fingers and ordered a radio and 2 brackets to work with for mounting my antenna,

my radio just came in today, the radio was initially on backorder and i had paid for a peek n tune and 2 day shipping, since it was on backorder they refunded my shipping charge for 2 day air, the radio came in the next day and they still shipped it 2 day air

now i just have to figure out where i'm going to mount it

It's like a super charger for your CB. It basically means that you'll be transmitting with more watts that standard so you can reach farther. Some truckers have linears so powerful that you can burn your hand on the antenna when they key the mike. Or so I've been told.

I'm not entirely sure since they're illegal, but I'm checking out the site from above right now.

edit: well it seems that you can pick them up from the above site. Pretty cool. http://www.gijoesradioelectronics.com/

A linear hooks between your radio and antenna with a short piece of coax cable. They amplify your output signal and can also do the same on the input (receive). The legal wattage is 5 watts into your finals, so the output would be close to 5 watts out to the antenna on an AM carrier. A couple of thousand watts reaches out pretty good!

If you start running a lot of power sooner or later you going to pi$$ somebody off that is talking on an adjacent channel. There are cheap amps out that there are just plain junk that splatter all over the CB band and there are good ones that don't.

If you are giving somebody a signal that reads a 2 on their radio and you are putting out 5 watts, here is what you would need to get a better signal to them:

10watts...a 3 on their meter
20watts...a 4
40watts...a 5

You can see where that is going!

Terry

i knew a fella that had enough watts to make flourescent lights in the garage glow , but he also interfered with tvs and stuff too

obi if you want a clean cb supercharge, ya need to find a shop that does peak and tunes, it's kind of like getting a tune up for your jeep, slight watt increases, might put you at 8-14 watts instead of 4 watts, ive always ran SSB cb's whenever i could, on the single side band you have 12 watts stock rather than 4, takes a bit more work to tune in the freq but youre able to avoid alot of the crapple carrier noise

anything over 30-50watts with a cb, ssb or not, and you're better off using mobile ham or hf

hey tom, got my radio rollin from GI's today, it's friggin nice, now i just have to find a permanent mount for it and get some more height on my antenna

the peak and tune seems to have been worth it

with a temporary mount and antenna ground the guys at the fuel city down the interstate from me were able to pick me up and respond about 26 miles away, briefly spoke to one of the store owners wives on a ssb channel at almost 45 miles but I was barely able to bring her single in tune

nice thing about the radio it's got a power dial to scale back the output, something i'm not used to

gotta love galaxy

gotta get my antenna higher that it is right now, the tip is barely over the rear of my jeep with a 4 ft antenna, i ended up making a quick mount to the driver bottom anchor of the tire carrier, it's a good position, clears the wiper, doesn't slap the jeep, to get the glass open ya just pull it back since it's a flex-4 you can bend it 180, i just couldn't get my quick rigged mount to stay on the top anchor, i managed to get the antenna mount half of a mirror mount wedged against the tire so it wouldnt pull down

it's a bit of a monkeyed set up, i'm pulling it back apart tomorrow

last week i took the console basket out of the center console, theres lots of room in there should i decide to mount the radio in there without the basket, the lid will bolt right back on without the basket with no problem, i dont store anything in there anyway so that might be the route i go

just wish the liberty had easier antenna mount locations!

i also need to run wires to the battery or fuse box or add a fuse or something, it's picking up way too much ignition noise plugged into the front cig lighter

Glad you got it and working great. I am gatting ready to redo my antenna soon since I have a place for it on the RL rack and should help mine as well.

I'm know I'm going to upset some people with this post but I'm going to say it anyway. And this isn't directed at anyone in particular.

It bothers me every time I hear about someone running linear amplifiers or having a "peaked and tuned" CB. Especially when theres comments like they are turning on lights, setting off car alarms of causing interference to other radio and TV signals. If your radio is doing any of these things it means that you are not just transmitting on one CB channel but ALL OVER THE RADIO SPECTRUM. All I'm saying is to think about who your interfering with and what the effects are. Its possable that your "spurious emissions" are intrerfering with police, fire, aviation and shipping. Hospitals use telemetry to monitor patients among other things, yes there is actually a reason for those no cell phone signs in the emergency room. Thares also a reason for those no radio signs around blasting zones.

All I'm saying is lets think about what were doing. If you want to talk around the world, take the ham test and legally run 1000's of watts.

fully understand what you're sayin sandman

when we were talkin about people lighting up flourescents and what not, those are more nostalgia comments than anything, with increase in mobile hf's you're hard pressed to find many people wasting money on linears and 100+ watt cloud hammers as it is, where I live it's pointless to go over 20watts even on ssbs because of terrain

can't speak for anyone elses peak&tune but my output is cleaner after the tune than it was before even with the slight increase in watts

can't afford a mobile ham atm, that is one of the next investments i'm making though after i take the test later in the year

a 400 watt car stereo amp puts out more out of band interference than i do

Back in the early 90's I worked with a guy who put a big alt, extra batts and stiffening caps to run his CB. Not sure how much power he had but he would lick his finger and touch his antenna as he whistled into the mic and you could see sparks. He could also tell peeps at the drive through to pull forward.

Sandman hit the nail on the head! A properly tuned radio and/or amplifier will not that stuff.
