ok, so im driving my kj to the dump today, and my bettery light came on, and then she died. Completely. I thought maybe the altenator was screwey,(been messing around under the hood lately) maybe loose connection. But, no. I jumped it and drove it down the street and it started doing the following(weird and a little bit scary): all the dash warning lights came on and off :i got power nothing, no roof, no locks, no windows :the jeep shifted funny :the brakes locked up(then unlocked) :THE JEEP DIED completely, i was able to roll it off the road and get it towed home, but before i go down into the garage tomorrow and tear the dang thing apart, I was just wondering if anyone has seen this or heard of it??? I just went down and turned the key, i got power back but am weary to start it. BTW: I just replaced the alternator AND starter about 8 months ago... |

Most likely the battery went. Just asking why was the alternator replaced? Who tested it and said it was bad? The only place that can properly test the KJ's alternator is a dealer via the DRBIII or StarScan only, and no auto zone or advance auto can not properly test the KJ's alternator properly. |

The PCM directly controls the alternator via many sensors. There is a TSB for some '02's having bad BCM's(body control module).

Most likely it's just a bad battery. Libbys do weird things when the battery gets weak. If by chance something is wrong with the alt, it should be under warranty. Also, I respectfully disagree that the Libby has such a fancy whiz-bang alt that only a dealer can test it. Yes, it's controlled by a computer, just like any other newer car on the road. That doesn't mean the alt itself is anything special. Still the same technology we've had for decades. |
