So I'm (re) mounting my CB antenna tomorrow based on some new suggestions. I had it mounted to my spare tire, with the ground wire from the antenna mounted to the actual antenna mount, and I then grounded the antenna mount under the carpet of back. Problem was during opening and closing the tail gate, eventually that ground was cut. I'm mounting it basically above the right tail light to prevent this again, but want to know if I should ground it the same way as before?

If you're using something like this (pictured is a tunable Firestik FL4), it doesn't require grounding.

If you're using a mount that is powder coated, you need to remove the PC down to bare metal where both the coax and antenna meet on the mount.

If you need to ground, the chassis is always the best place.

Since you are mounting it on the taillight... you can run your wires in behind the taillight, there is a small hole... comes out behind the trim in your cargo area, from there, find a nice grounding spot.

There is a write up by Fulltimer, I think its in the fab section or electronics...
