Want to get one of those small navagation units, but unsure which one to buy?? Please give me some opinions on them, and if you own one, which one it is and why you like it.
Thanks!

From some of the research I have done, a Garmin nuvi 255 is a great starter GPS. A nuvi 205 is great but it does not tell you what street to turn on. It will say Turn left instead of Turn left on High St. The 255 will tell you the street. Magellan has faded over the last few years.

I just got a Garmin 255 over the weekend and concur it is a great 1st GPS...the voice directions are clear and the state the street name as opposed to some of the cheaper ones that say turn left ahead. Plus you can add your own vehicle icons and someone on here or KJCountry has a KJ icon you can use...I think it was Corwyn that did the development.

PS there is a whole section in the forum on here regarding GPS that has some good discussions... http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewforum.php?f=44

Was thinking of getting a Garmin 205 or 255.

Garmin is the way to go. I used to work at Best buy and we always recommended Garmin over all others. I have the nuvi 205 great buy for the price!

I have the the Garmin Nuvi 200 and my husband has the Garmin Nuvi 260. the only difference beisdes the price is that the 260 tells the street name to turn on. I love the 200 but sometimes the streetnames do com in handy!

Also I recommend the 255W over the 255...the extra wide is better... ..makes the display easier to read.

I had a Lowrance XOG that I recently replaced (kids fried it...) with a Garmin 205. The Garmin stinks, I'm sorry to say. the quality of the routes are no where near as good as the Xog's. You can't tell the garmin to avoid tolls, ferries, highways, or secondary roads. The accuracy of your position isn't as good either. No way to show elevation, or order multiple destinations. Offroad, the bread crumb feature and maps aren't as good either, IMHO. The only benefit of the Garmin I see is that the street maps look prettier... :( The Garmin will be gone within the next 2 weeks.

You can have it avoid all of the above. The rest may be true, I have never played around with the XOG.

Pray tell how. I've looked in every section of the tools and the only choices that deal with nav is fastest time, shortest distance, and offroad. The pamphlet (manual doesn't give any info either)

I lkie the Garmins. I use a 200W in the KJ and a Etrex for Geocaching. Gets me to where I want and I find what I'm looking for when I get there!

I just got a Garmin Nuvi 500, has boat, bike, car, walk, offroad modes and built in Topo maps.

You can find them for around $290

I use a TomTom 100, nothing really fancy but it gets me where I want to go and it will tell you your speed and POI and other stuff like that. I think they are only like $100 or so.

Garmin 250W. I bought two, one for me and one for my mother who is a home health care Nurse. She uses hers everytime she makes a call and she loves it. The 205 is a basic Garmin, so some of the featrues are disabled. Spend the extra money and get the higher model numbers and go with the wide screen. They are way easier to read.

I just picked up a TOMTOM 125.. and its great.. same thing as a TOMTOM 130 but no maps of Canada.... also doesn't speak street names... the 130s does... but for $99 bucks it can't be beat it works great, it's paid for itself for me an I've only had it about a month... dollar for dollar prob the best on the market, sure it doesn't have some of the features of others but as a basic get ya where ya wanna go GPS it works great.. oh an I had mine with me when two buddys had 2 differant Garmin's an they couldn't get signal I could.. I'm sure Garmins are great but I'm just sayin...
