Since i stayed up all night at academy on black friday and got the garmin nuvi 205 for $60 (regularly $159.99) I really need to hardwire my radar detector. I have lost my original post, but now i need to know.
if i cut the wires about 6 inches from the ac plug, what will be there? two wires? one hot and one ground?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

what type of radar detector is it? I have a beltronics radar detector hardwired to my dune light wires and a V1 (valentine one) on my audi the same way. I mounted them up by the rear view mirror for better detection.

I used one of these Clickie for the Beltronics and didnt have to cut anything. All i needed to do was find the hot wire and get a grow. its been like that for 2 years and works great.

Yeah you will have one hot and one ground.. easiest way to wire this is..

Tap into the Aftermarket Stereo's Amp Remote Wire for the Power
Tap into a ground source for the ground..

That way when your amp comes on your Radar comes on.. I had mine like that for a long time, infact I even wired my sirius satellite radio like that..

Usually the wire with the stripes on it is the ground if I recall correctly.. (Radar detector wiring)

Well you only need an accessory line Mike.. don't you have an aftermarket radio? If so connect the power wire of the Radar to the Striped Blue wire on the back of the radio coming out like you would for a Remote Wire.. and there's your power, then just use the ground from your CB and there you go man.. not all that complicated :P

This is what mine looks like, nice and clean install and no wires all over the place and it took me 10 minutes with the kit from ebay. You can probably find one for yours on ebay too or somewhere else online.

holy crap that was easy... a bit nerve wrenching cutting the perfectly good wire, but ground and power and it was done.
