Post subject: | Hooking up an MP3 player to stock stereo |
Hi, all, Short of using an FM transmitter (which makes the already marginal MP3's sound even more so), is there a way that someone knows of that one can hook up the audio out of an MP3 player to the stock stereo directly? For example, is there a stereo audio line from the CD changer in the back that makes its way up to the stereo? If so, perhaps that could be tapped with a switch to go between the two devices... |

There are products like the Monster iCruze http://www.monstercable.com/icruze/ or PIE Adapters http://www.pie.net/index.cfm They are all preety pricey. Honestly, I'd recommend you put in an aftermarket stereo that has an aux in. It will cost about the same price as one of those adapters and function a lot better. I just put one in the Rubicon that plays MP3 CDs and has an aux in for $129. I wanted to stay as cheap as possible, but still have all the functions, since radios like to disappear when you have the soft top on ![]() In any case, check out your options on www.crutchfield.com for aftermarket stereos and factory aux adapters. I stand by them as much as possible becuase they give you everything you need as well as detailed vehicle specific instructions. If you buy a stereo $129 and up, you even get your dash adapter and wiring harness for free - they would cost over $40 at the big boxes. Hope that helps. |

If you get a DLO it will sound great. This thing has enough power to step on local radion stations. ![]() |

I bought the USA Spec ipod adapter to cd changer input from Crutchfield for about $120. The UI works well. |

I appreciate the suggestions, but before this goes much further I should clarify that I don't have an iPod. Although I may wish I did. I have a Creative Zen Touch. Lots of solutions for iPods, but doesn't anyone have a decent solution for the 1/8" mini-output from any ol' player? Even an FM transmitter that would "step on local stations" would be better than what I've got! |

i have a creative one with 40gb drive.. i just bought FM transmitter.. i like having the controls for the stock unit.. thats the only reason why i havnt changed it.. I wish DC would of came out with a mp3 compatible main unit when I bought my 2004 but they didnt.. so i went with the 6 changer.. i burn my own cds from mp3s and use the FM transmitter for my other mp3s.. in fact i need to find my charger cause i d/l tons of Howard Stern mp3s from his new Sirius show and I want to listen.. I would of gotten that too if I was offered that when I got my liberty... anyways.. my old car had the works.. i put about 4K in the alarms/system/amps/2 12" tubes.. replaced all speakers with all Rockford Fosgate and had a sony receiver/crossover/equalizer.. etc.. IMO looking back. did i need to spend that much? no.. did i ever have any problems? nope.. i could blast anyone.. i was told to enter contest..etc.. i did it for me.. thats it.. but you know.. now with the Jeep.. I burn my own cds.. i like having the steering wheel controls.. i dunno I guess i grew out of the need to have THE BEST or THE LOUDEST ... ![]() ![]() |

For anyone who didn't notice, the iCruze can currently be purchased for just $99 instead of $250 from their site. It still looks like a lot of work for a product that can't expand to other mp3 players, and can only play from the ipod playlists. http://store.monstercable.com/icruze/ |
