Talking with RedKJ666 the other day got me thing of the difference between the North American Liberty's tails lights and the European Cherokee (Liberty) tail lights. ![]() ![]() The tail lights look identical however on the European model there's supposed to be a rear foglight (???). Just what is that supposed to be and how does it operate? |

I've searched the web for information for pics of rear facing fog lights on a European Liberty/Cherokee but all I found were discussions on a BMW forum. Apparently on some BMW's all you need is to swap in a European headlight switch. The wiring & bulbs are already in place. It seems to be a European thing to have rear facing fog lights on European vehicles but not on vehicles sold in North America. Today I'm dismantling my tail lights. I've been told the bulbs & wiring are there for rear facing fog lights on the Liberty but that a switch or a relay is missing. |

On my VW Jetta it had a spot for the rear fogs. It was only on the left tail light, and after researching it, its just a single filament bulb (like a tail light) that you turn on to help people see you in heavy fog. I think it was amber if I remember correctly. IMO, I found it near pointless so I never installed the kit. |

ahh this is true with the KK's also in europe they require rear fogs... so the bototm of our lights are empty... of course have blacked out tail lights and wanted some more light... the area where the fog would normally be is hollow ( in a KK taillight) i drilled up a hole... bought a pig tail and put in a new light wiring it in parallel to the old brake light. now it looks like an import... lights on the top and bottom... so much better |

That seems alot more useful. I wouldve added the extra lights in that case too. |

yes in both taillight if you look at the KK the bottom portion has no light when stock, but i now do... if you buy the 3157 pigtail and do the connection it will fire the bulb regular adn brighter when you hit the brakes... it looks much nicer in my opinion too... i think the KJ is the same way... i could take a look tomorrow... anyone know of a thread of any broken KJ tail lights where we could see the interior |

yup they dont... they should but they dont... Chrysler would actually save themselves ( safety wise) more by adding another 20 dollars in wiring because it really does add a lot of extra light to the rear end... when i hit the brakes you know it... its brighter then stock even with tinted tails and without i'd sure its much much brighter... i also intend to put 60 LED bulbs in soon so its even brighter.... if anyone wants to know what i did or have a how two wirtten up let me know... i intend to pull out my lights again soon as i am gunna change over the bulbs so let me know ( its an easy mod that takes about 30 minutes0 |

ahh liberty fever i never answered your question the Euro liberties have a rear fog light... it turns on with the other fog light ( its wired into the coputer differently). it is a mandatory spec in europe. basically its just another bulb down there and the reflector is different then a regular brake light. then put everything else that was said after this... ti should all make sense |

Wow Jeepin_it_real, thanks for all the info. I figured that the rear facing fog lights were run in parallel with the front fog lights. It makes sense. Boy the KK's have a lot of backup light area on their tail lights. I like what you've done with your KK. But with the badges removed it almost passes for a Dodge Nitro This morning I'll make myself a coffee, find my toolbox & camera and see about removing my own tail lights. |

I did a spot on this about 3 years ago with photos of a side by side comparison. viewtopic.php?f=5&t=14089&hilit=tailights Euro is not hte correct term, it is a marketing term E-Spec is the correct designation for all european spec cars and trucks. Rear fogs on a KK are in the tail lights only Both sides light up This is the half round section of the lower part of the light. There is a different switch for using the rear fog light on the headlight stalk, all Chrysler products have this. Front fog lights are an option, rears are stardard by law. The front and rears are independently, first comes the front then come the rear. The switch works and looks just like yours except: You have to pull the end out like normal but it has a 2 position switch in it. There are no lights in the bumper, they are only reflectors. There are changes as well with the headlights and antenne for the e-spec KJ and KK. |

Today I opened up one of my rear tail lights and discovered a similar setup as to what Jeepin_it_real had described on his KK. ![]() As you can see the lens appears to be there for the "fog light" but there's no bulb socket. If I want to go any further with this idea I'll have to drill out the back of the lens and find some way to install/wire in an extra brake light. |

thats easy and exactly what i did... haha... get a 3157 pigtail ( if you need the link let me know)... then wire it in parallel o the original brake light set up... then silicon in the light and have some type of quick disconnect for the new bottom brake light... the trick is to get the pigtail in snug and use as little silicon as u can to kep it in and give a good seal.... if you want me to further the how to i can give some tips and tricks etc |

Cool, so all I need to do is buy a pair of these; ![]() plus two 3157 bulbs and drill a hole in the lens big enough to fit the 3157 pigtail into and wire it into the brake light line. Maybe I should parallel it with the existing tail light. One filament for the tail light and one for the brake light. So you think it's okay to drill into the back of the lens? On my lens it appears there's wiring traces running through it. |
