Been looking thru the forum a while on EVIC installs, decided to take the plunge, thought it would snaz up the interior a little.
I got an EVIC from a 99 GC for really cheap on Ebay to do the initial install, probably gonna upgrade when a KJ one comes around.
The EVIC i got was just that - an EVIC - No harness, no mounting plate.
NOTES:
The headliner is very stiff, and supported by some foam blocks, so i figured it would support the lighter side of the EVIC.
Since I had not mounting hardware, I use a couple of the flexible dividers from an old plastic hardware organizer.
I screwed them to the holes in the plastic tabs used to mount the lights to the frame, and trimmed them to keep the max amount in contact with the headliner:
The wiring is pretty straightforward, I used 2 pieces of wire from an old computer case, the header pins for the HDD and RST buttons were exactly the right spacing for the EVIC plug.
Since the EVIC only draws .2 amps, I used a 6' piece of stranded CAT5 I had laying around, approx 22GA.
I swapped the pink and black wires on the overhead lights connector on the EVIC, I didn't want to cut and splice.
If you don't swap these wires, the lights work the opposite of the way they should.
The connector from the old overhead lights snaps right in.
I traced out where it would go and cut the headliner, be careful, mine had a wire glued to the back of the headliner where the EVIC goes.
After cutting the headliner and adding the plastic tabs, i got it all squared up and drilled a hole in the roof support for the screw to secure the front of the EVIC.
