When I bought my KJ it had no hitch receiver installed, I added a Reese class 3 hitch last summer and now I plan to add the wiring to pull a trailer. Has anyone else added the necessary wiring and where did you buy the kit?

Yes. I added the factory MOPAR wiring harness to mine. I have wired hundreds of hitchs in the past but on my Jeep I decided to use the factory harness which I am very glad I did. Exact fit, fused and relayed properly, very neat and clean look and should have no problems with it for the life of the vehicle. I bought it directly from a Jeep dealer when I was able to get my discount, even today with out a discount I would still install the factory harness. :JEEPIN:

BugginKJ,

Which type of harness did you order? I want to go the same route and avoid unreliable aftermarket products like the last time (electrical shorts). So far, I see 3 part numbers according to Chrysler:

- 82207290AB
- 82207620AB
- 82207248AB

82207248AB info points out that vehicles without overhead console should also order 82207620AB. I have an overhead console but it's not factory, I installed it myself... Should it be the combo or the other unit (82207290AB)?

Thx!

Plug-n-play, just need to do the one ground wire, draws power from the rear power outlet.

There are actually 2 harness's. The front harness is called a "complementary harness", it's the harness that hooks up to your battery, is fused, comes through your firewall goes behind your radio and glovebox then goes along the passenger side of your Jeep to the rear harness to feed it for power. The rear harness then hook into that one and also into the rear taillight harness, that's the harness that gives you your light functions and also has the large wad of relays neatly tucked in a wrap. Both MOPAR part numbers are 82207248AB and 82207620AB. They do come with instructions as to how to install them so it's a breeze to do. You wont be sorry at all going the factory route. I also am using the factory 7 way socket, which is very nice and heavy duty. :JEEPIN:

Sorry I don't have the wiring diagram or wire designation chart. If ya have a circuit tester it would easy enough to figure out before cutting up the wiring. Be warned however, that is the reason I decided to go with factory wiring for the harness because I heard way too many horror stories (from factory techs) of the KJ wiring being funny about being tapped into. I have wired hundreds if not thousands of all kinds of equipment , so I am no rookie at wiring  I know folks on here and other places have done their own but that's their rig and wish them luck.
Edit: I can and will tell you generally white is ground, yellow is left turn, green is right turn, blue is auxillary power, black and brown is marker lights and red is brake lights. Like I said though, a cicuit tester will tell you EXACTLY what ya have coming from your main plug and which wires you will need for your 4 wire setup. Be carefull.

Hi!

As recommended above, I purchased and installed 82207248AB and 82207620AB on my Liberty Sport 2007. Am I wrong or there is an unused wire on the complementary harness (the light blue one)? I haven't found anything about it in installation instructions, it just seems to be rolled and tye-rapped in steering column area. I connected my tent trailer (which doesn't have electric brakes) using my new 7 pin connector and lights all seem to work fine. I want to make sure electric brakes will work when I'll "update" the tent trailer to a travel trailer with electric brakes later this fall. How do I make sure electric brakes will work? Do I need something else?

Thanks in advance for helping!

Denis.

You will need a brake controller.

And that light blue wire does connect to brake controller?

Thanks for helping to figure that!

Blue is universal for trailer brake. You should also have or need to run 3 other wires. Power, ground, and brake trigger
