I have 2 keys with the transmitter built into the key - nice for day-to-day, but not very outdoor activity friendly. So I had a regular key cut (no transmitter and no chip, just a piece of regular old metal) to throw in my pocket when I'm likely to get rained on, dunked in a river, etc.

The problem is that if I leave the vehicle for more than a few minutes the stock security system arms (factory service manual calls it the Vehicle Theft Alarm - VTA) and when I open the door with exterior door lock (instead of hitting the button on the transmitter), the horn honks and the lights flash until I can grab the transmitter key from inside and press the unlock on the transmitter (or put a chipped key in the ignition).

Anybody have a solution they could offer? Is there a way to lock up the libby without having the VTA arm? Or is there a way I can disarm the VTA? I didn't see anywhere in the service manual how to disable the VTA. And searched the forums and didn't see anything.
