Hey guys, so I'm re-wiring my lights, etc. - I was wondering how much [watts, amps, Ohms] the relay is taking from a wire connected to a new 12v power source that I created from the battery, which is being used as a trigger. I believe it is very little. Electrical Gurus UNITE! Thanks in advance. ![]() |

Your question makes no sense. If I had to guess the answers would be 2, rabbit, C. |

Haha, obviously I have no idea what I'm talking about. I had my rodents in the reverse order. If a 12v input is used to energize a relay, how much draw is it using? I wanted to use one line directly from the battery to power 5 relays. Would that overload it? Technically its not using much power, correct? I'm assuming not. I kind of went another route, so I'm not sure if my question is relevant, but I'm still curious. |

The setup I have is simple enough, .... hopefully, this will give you the information you need. I have a single 6 gauge wire coming from the 12 volt battery terminal to power a fuse block. I use 20 amp fuses (because that's what came with the lights) on the output to each relay. I use a single 5 amp fuse on the switch side of the relay for all 4 switches. I used 14 gauge wire throughout for wiring switches, lights, and relays. The "energizing" circuit for the relays is the 5 amp line...... So the short answer would be, less than 5 amps. This would apply for up to 4 pairs of lights of 100 watts or less per light. |

Thanks for helping me understand a little better. I decided to go against what I originally planned. Brad, This is all your fault anyway.. Here is a teaser.. ![]() |
