Post subject:  HOW TO: Backup your nav disk!

I spent a few days reading tons of forums and hours of google searching. So i wanted to compile one how to here. The nav disks in the RB1 tend to wear out. From what i have read elsewhere, the constant heat in the unit causes the disk to slightly warp over time. When you combine this with the already sensitive laser on the RB1, you get a disk error. The only solution was to buy a new disk from Mopar for 199...Until now.

YOU WILL NEED A DUAL LAYER DVD BURNER IN ORDER FOR THIS TO WORK

First you need an image burning program.
DVD decrypter: http://download3.videohelp.com/SetupDVD ... .5.4.0.exe

Download the program
Open it up
Insert your nav disk into the computer
Mode
ISO>
Read
Pick a place to save the file

Now to burn a copy:
Used dvd decrypter again
mode
ISO>
Write

Lets confirm the setting are good:
Tools
Setting
ISO Write mode
---on the left options: Auto/SAO/Auto
---on the left check Enable Burn/Lock volume/Cycle tray
---all others un checked
---on the right calculate optimal
---click ok

Lets burn the copy:
Choose the file location which you saved in the first step
Insert a DVD+R DL into the drive (i used a memorex from staples)
Write speed 2x
start

After about 40 minutes you will have a working copy

Turn the car on
Insert into nav
it will give an error and then go blank
DO NOT TURN THE KEY/START THE CAR/PRESS BUTTONS. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING OR YOU CAN BRICK THE UNIT!!!
the unit will update
then restart and you are good to go!!!

It is also possible to download a torrent version of the AF version disk if your factory disk is warped/scratched. Google "05064033AF torrent". Thepiratebay.org has one with good comments which should not contain a virus or malware. I would be cautious of downloading others. But keep in mind it is illegal to have a copy of it without owning the actual mopar disk.

This has been on my list of many things to do, I had actually researched this topic in other forums and since I dont have experience with torrents I just bought the latest version which is 2010 5064033AJ, seems to be the latest version available. It's always a good idea to have the file saved on you computer and have an extra hard copy just in case the dvd gets warped or scratched.

For those who don't know the settings must not burn faster than 2x due to the RB1 having difficulty reading it as stated it is very sensitive and I have actually taken it apart and cleaned the lens with good results.

Thanks for the write up I'll be doing this soon
