I have an interesting problem. My instrument panel fails at about 2400rpm. I first noticed the other day when the engine downshifted and the tachometer rose up. All the IP lights and stereo shut off, I heard a pop through the stereo speakers, but the engine continued to run. A few seconds later, everything came back on. Now this continues every time the engine reaches 2400 rpm. I have an '03 Liberty with about 155k miles. The battery and alternator are each about a year old. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. |

Ok, the jeep was diagnosed with a faulty voltage regulator located on the PCM. I got a quote for $800 to replace this thing. The junkyard has one from the same model year for $80. I'm reading mixed reviews about replacing the PCM and programming. Has anyone done this and what's the real deal? Thanks in advance. |

You got to have the VIN programmed into the PCM eitherway and being a '03 could have many different options that will come into play like what trans you have(2 different auto that year) and if the PCM is stand alone or has the intergrated TCM also. |

I talked to a Jeep tech at the dealership who said a PCM cannot be re-programmed. I was thinking of trying to find the problem on the board before replacing it. Is anyone familiar with the voltage regualtor circuit and which components to check. If this is just a fried resistor I'm wondering if it can be replaced for cheap money. Is there a place to find a wiring schematic for the PCM? |
