New guy here. Been lurking for awhile. Been doing a lot of searching. I would like to say thank you to all those that post and help others.

I do have a couple questions. First I have the dreaded bad speaker Infinity system. One speaker bad. I bought all four door spearkers. These here Polk Audio db651s, got them from Crutchfield from suggestions from others here. But I would also like to replace the HU in a couple months. I think I just decided today after I saw the price for the steering wheel control box(local shop quoted me 100 bucks). Well I think I can do it myself, looks mostly plug and play. But the reason I want to change HU is becasue of Ipod/phone inputs.

So I was planning on using the factory amp with the new speakers for now. But I am unsure what to do when I get the HU. Can I still use the factory amp with the speakers or will it be too much?

Next question I have is how hard is it to remove the factory radio( six disc changer)? Is there a special tool or something needed? I have done a couple radios but its been years ago and those were in pretty old cars that a person would go under the dash and undo the fastners from there. I have never done these newer types.

Thanks for the help
Clint

I just went through all of this. You want to get an adapter like this ebay wiring adapter
Then at the front speaker locations, you cut the amp out and jump the wires to the back speakers. I dont remember the colors but its not hard to figure out. Remember that one of the lines is carrying 12v that used to power the amp, so cap that off. The stock wiring is more than adequate to carry the powered load from the new head unit to the speakers. You can also use these
ebay speaker adapter if you dont want to hack up the rear speaker harnesses.

Thanks for the reply. I do understand that the adaptors will work. However I am looking to know if I install the speakers today using the amps, and then say a year later I do the Head unit. Will I need to remove the amps that I had left in place during the speaker install.

Or can the amps just stay in place.

thanks for the links I will get some of those asap and have them on hand.

Clint

Ok I pulled the trigger on a new Head unit. So I need to know if I can or need to use the factory amps from the speakers. Not sure about the specfics, but I can handle the hardware install just need to know if can use them or if its going to be too much. I doubt it but dont want to find out the hard way.

Thanks
Clint

Are you changing the speakers as well, or are you keeping the stock Infinity ones?

I am replacing all the speakers. Doors are getting Polk db 651s and I also order Dxi1000 1 inch tweeters. Head unit is going to be Kenwood KDC-X695 CD Receiver. I hope these units will work good together, would to at least end up with as good as sound as the factory unit before the speakers took a crap. What do you think. I am looking at using the factory amps, can I do that?

thanks
Clint

The HU should have plenty of power to run those without the factory amps.

I honestly don't know if it will even work well having power from the HU sent through those amps as well. I've not heard of anyone doing it with an aftermarket HU.

I recently replaced my HU and speakers and ditched the factory amps. Everything sounds great. Better than the factory. Although, if the factory speakers hadn't taken a crap on me as well, I was perfectly happy with them.
