I tried to order a new door speaker (since my rubber surround is blown like everyone elses...) from my favorite Mopar distributor and got this in email:
Code:
Order Number: 30088301
P/N: 56038593AI speaker front door has been superceded to part#Z6038593AI speaker and is now a Exchange Part. i must have the old speaker before we can order the new speaker.(we need to what is wrong with the old speaker and the mileage of the vehicle when we order it. let us know thank you
I called and they confirmed it. They can't order the replacement without the damaged unit and a whole crap-ton of information about the KJ. I'm guessing either one of two things:
1) The parts are in such short supply that they're actually refurbing them and sellling them under some super-secret-not-new-but-just-as-good name.
2) They had someone buy up all the stock from ebay or something and now are doling out the speakers like some kind of communist nation with a bread ration.
Long story short, the price is the same, AND I don't get to keep my exising speaker, AND I have to mail it to them first before I can get a replacement.
Thanks. Chrysler, you've driven me to search the black-market in the (formerly known as) cradle of the free market economy.
Dan
