I'm tempted. it's alot more expensive than the most basic of units, but the multiple uses are intriguing. I'd put in the hard-wire kit into the jeep with a proper antenna, but when not needed I can tuck the wiring back into some panel area. maybe after I get sorted out from my track day. |

I have a Cobra 18 WX ST II that works great and has all the same features. I picked it up for $60. my issue entirely is, the kj just doesn't have a nice spot to put one in/on. the trans tunnel is so wide I don't like the idea of sticking it on the side of it... the dash doesn't have a decent "pocket" to put one in (already used the wallet pocket for the brake controller)... dash top isn't deep/flat enough. you KK guys have it a bit better in that the new style stock radios are big and square, meaning you can fit a regular size DIN radio and a CB in the same space very cleanly. |

Yeah, that's what I did. It was the only way I could come up with to mount one without taking up too much space. Its just the mic with all the controls on it and a connector box, which you can hide in the center counsel, under the seat, anywhere you like. |

I wondered if anyone made something like that. may have to buy both, try them out and return the one I like least. I would hope the Cobra would be a better performing unit, but the Midland having the portability option is very tempting. Most of the 'crappy performance' complaints seem to center around the rubber ducky antenna it comes with for portable use. I've heard that a couple places sell a telescoping antenna that replaces it and works FAR better. |

If you go with the Midland I would add an antenna to the KJ. From the reviews I've seen the signal has a hard time getting out past a half mile with the stock antenna. I'm sure a telescoping antenna would add a little range, but not like a Firestik or a whip. You could probably do a magnet mount whip if you needed to change between vehicles too. Do you have an RV or something you will be using this in? |

oh I'll be adding a full antenna to the jeep for hooking up to this. i was more talking about the extendable antenna for use when out and about, like on trails or when not explicitly in the jeep. |

I have the Cobra 75 WX ST and the Midland both, I do not like the Midland. The Cobra 75 WX ST is much easier to use and allows for multiple vehicle mounting. The Midland is good for monitoring the weather channels and short transmit distances with the supplied rubber duck but thats all. The best I have gotten is maybe a1/2 mile. |

alot of reviews of the midland bash the rubber duck antenna. I get that. it's too short for the task. have you tried using one of the extendable whip antennas you can mount in place of the rubber duck? what about using it with the external antenna option? |

I have the center load telescopic antenna, not much room to open it up in the truck so it still does not work well. Receiving seems good but the transmitting is not much better than the RD. |
