Thanks! I have heard of people getting away with powering their Cobra or Uniden with the accessory port but my Galaxy will probably just pop the fuse. Might as well just do it right and be done with it. Besides you need that 12v port to charge your cell phone and what not.
Going to the battery isn't necessary, but likely the easiest way to go unless you want to add an auxillary fuse / relay panel under the knee panel like I did.
If going direct to the battery, I'd use 14 gauge wire (make your own twisted pair [red & black] with a cordless drill) and fuse the red (positive) at the battery.
Most CB's take a 3 amp fuse, some take a 5 amp. I use the blade style fuse holders, as they are more durable, and you don't have to worry about carrying different types of fuses.
The connector you use in the cab is up to you, as is the location. I like to use the Cobra 4 pin microphone style connector. It's a clean install, and looks stock when you're done. Mount the male connector to the dash (or wherever) and put female mating connector on the end of your power cable. The threaded connection stays put under any offroad condition, and makes for easy removal of the radio whenever you need to do so.
