Post subject:  New Member and Wiring CB power cord
Hi, new to the forum! I just bought a 2 year old Libby which is my second KK. First one was an '08 Light Graystone Pearlcoat and we also own a '12 Patriot, so I'm a Jeep addict!! Looking forward to a long stay here! :CAMPING:

Okay, on with the question: How do I go about running a dedicated cb power? Do I go from the battery (in-line fuse from hot) to the cb? Or do I go from somewhere in the fuse box to the cb? I have basic automotive wiring knowledge but would appreciate a "how to" on this. Thanks!!!

I would also like to know, as I'll be wiring a CB soon too. Subscribed!

I read that connecting to the battery gives "cleaner" power/reception than the fuse box or cigarette lighter. I would love to know what other KK owners have done, and what their results have been.

Congrats on the new KK too. The lights and the grill guard look cool. :D

Thanks! I have heard of people getting away with powering their Cobra or Uniden with the accessory port but my Galaxy will probably just pop the fuse. Might as well just do it right and be done with it. Besides you need that 12v port to charge your cell phone and what not.

Going to the battery isn't necessary, but likely the easiest way to go unless you want to add an auxillary fuse / relay panel under the knee panel like I did. :mrgreen:

If going direct to the battery, I'd use 14 gauge wire (make your own twisted pair [red & black] with a cordless drill) and fuse the red (positive) at the battery.
Most CB's take a 3 amp fuse, some take a 5 amp. I use the blade style fuse holders, as they are more durable, and you don't have to worry about carrying different types of fuses.

The connector you use in the cab is up to you, as is the location. I like to use the Cobra 4 pin microphone style connector. It's a clean install, and looks stock when you're done. Mount the male connector to the dash (or wherever) and put female mating connector on the end of your power cable. The threaded connection stays put under any offroad condition, and makes for easy removal of the radio whenever you need to do so.
