My daughter's Grand Cherokee has been out of use for a few months and they're in the process of getting it back on the road. Long story short...dead battery - replaced. Still won't crank. "Mechanic" says that it was dead for so long that when it was re-energized, the security system reset the key code and now it won't start. Is this true? I got a '93 with almost 400,000 miles, technology does not impress me!

Tell him to read the freakin owners manual. Some mechanic. My sister's had the same problem. After installing the battery, turn on ignition, turn off and remove key. Insert into drivers door lock. Cycle door lock. This should reset the immobilizer and allow it to crank. Works on a 1995. YMMV.
