This is going to seem like a really dumb question...

I recently installed a CB in my jeep, just a little Midland unit with a magmount antenna. I gave it power, it turns on and I can change channels, I get a display.....

but how can I test to make sure it works? I don't know anybody out here with CB, and I'm not too keen on going through all 40 channels until I find somebody listening. I do notice a little bit of static when I hit the talk button, but I don't ever get white-noise like I was expecting I might (volume knob and squelch don't seem to make any difference).

You should take it to a CB shop and have them put a SWR meter on it. You will probably need to tune that antenna.

Later,
J

Yeah that's a good idea.

And if your driving and see a trucker on the road, turn to channel 19 and ask for a "radio check". Some of the better units that trucker's use can tell you what your putting out too.
