I want to order a CB

I really like the Cobra 75WXST, so that is pretty much set.

I am not sure on what antennas to get. Is Firestick anygood?

Anyone have any suggestions.. or can provide a quick synopsis on what to look for in a antenna, and how to properly install one. I know you need a good ground connection.

Thanks

i really like my 3' wilson flex, especially for out in the bush. i'll prob pick up a 2' silver load for anything else so it doesnt have to bend to get in the garage door.

I've used a Wilson 1000 antenna with great success for years now. I like it because it unscrews from the base in seconds to avoid theft of the unit, and it is a BIG talker. The SWR doesn't change after removing and remounting it either. It's a bit more expensive than some , but the performance is outstanding!

I run the Cobra 75 with a 2' Wilson Silver Load on my rack, grounded inside the side rail mount. Previously I was running a 4' Firestik on the spare tire mount. No problems with either antenna. The only reason I swapped was because the bigger tire pushed against the antenna, and opening the tailgate was a pain.

I have the Cobra 75 with a 4ft firestick, mounted with the arizona rocky road mount.

The CB is mounted under the steering wheel:
Image
it is grounded in the red circle, I added a nut and bolt and it is very nicely grounded.

I then have the coax wire ran through under the center console, then under my floormats, under the back seats then under the plastic in the rear out through the hinge hole for the rear gate and back into the rear gate.

Then out and up to the antenna mount by Arizona Rocky Road.

I have a quick disconnect and a spring connected to it. I leave it on most of the time but when I go into a parking garage or a drive thru I can jump out and remove it quickly. Also when I go out to sea for a short period of time I take it off and put it inside.

Here is where I have the wire from the box to the handheld.

I took it to a local Ham radio/CB shop and he said all of my SWR signals are really good. I have held conversation in local San Diego with guys 5 to 8 miles away approx.

Hope this helps.

Now it will be easier.

No drilling through the molding in the cargo area up and out through the bottom hinge opening into the tailgate then out and under the gate door.
Lined it up with the seam for the molding, so I get no crimping of the cable. Mak sure you put a little bit a slack inside the door and/or the cargo area for opening and closing the door.
