Now that I have the GDE tune installed, I am concerned about tracking engine dynamics, such as trans temp, EGT's, rail pressure, boost pressure, etc. Is the Scanguage a viable option to pick up this information, or do I really need to install all the probes, splice the wires, and install the pods, etc., to access this information accurately?

I had one and had issues with it. Other people have too. Tech support was all but helpful. I had to return it. Something about having a tcm and a ecm and it not communicating with both properly. It would crash and would cause the car to drop gears while on the highway sometimes. They may have fixed this.

on a side note the scangauge worked great as a scanner. I just couldn't leave it plugged in all the time.

Our SGII had to move from the dash to the glovebox due to the same trans issues ribbon cited. It has not been plugged in once in almost a year. In fact, I just remembered that I let a neighbor borrow it in April, time to get that back!

I contacted linear logic about it, they said there are a couple vehicles it doesn't work well with and ours is one.

SGII works well as a scantool, not so well as a guage instrument on the KJ CRD - it is worth the ~$170 price if you crave an inexpensive scantool that will also look at all your other OBD2 vehicles, working flawlessly as a guage instrument on them - for comparison, STARSCAN is ~$4500, DRBIII is ~ $6500 - both of which are the scantool of choice for MrMoService, as used in DCJ service departments - Autoenginuity is ~$605 for the domestic package, covers DCJ, GM, and FoMoCo products - less if you need only one marquee

Well, I'm not looking for just a scanner - my $100 Innova from Wal-Mart works just fine. I am wondering if there is something out there that can show me real-time boost pressure, EGT, rail pressure, etc., without me having to drill, install probes, and splice wiring. Looks like a gauge pod is my only real option then.

So far, yes - we have the significant problem of having a "hybrid" system, not entirely CAN-based - EGT, you're on your own in any case, as ECM doesn't monitor that parameter

I tried out a scanguage two years ago. It did not give driveability problems, but the gauge gave bad readings after a run time of 20 minutes or so. According to Scanguage, this was because Chrysler hooked two computers to this system. When one computer resets, which it does periodically, having the second computer on line fouls up the Scanguage. OBDII Protocols call for one computer only, because of this problem, but Chrysler did not follow this protocol. This is the information I got from Scanguage, if some LOST member is better acquainted with CRD electronic controls than I am and has a different explanation, I'd be glad to hear it.

The KJ CRD has way more than two computers on-line - problem is they're all CAN-compliant and functional, butcept for two: TCM and ABS are old pre-CAN technology, even pre-OBD2, back to 1989, still stuck in the J1850\J1941 era, which resulted in our "hybrid" system - not truly CAN, not truly OBD2 - SGII interferes with ABS module communications, causing multiple resets which also affect the TCM, as they share VSS data over the old buss, where ECM is looking for data on the CAN buss - resultant buss-contention when SGII is polling, ABS is polling, and TCM is polling causes the tremendous bang-shift to as low as 3rd gear, not even good at 75mph - same contention is why SGII stops reading preset parameters, requiring power-cycle to restore

Also for any of the tunes - I'd question the Scangauge.

the Scangauge will readout - what the computer is seeing - if the parameters have been modified so that the computer is not seeing the correct number - but is instead seeing a modified number - then the Scangauge readout will be the modified number.

if you want real numbers - you need real gauges.

ATX speaks true. You can only trust the numbers as far as you can throw the sensor reading them. I've had more than one vehicle with buggy sensors on them, running like crap until ONLY the sensor was changed... When in many cases a mechanic says "you have to change so-and-so framistan parts which are $$$$" instead of trying the sensor FIRST.

I like external sensors anyway as an "independent observer" of what is really going on. if the numbers don't mesh between the built-in and the add-on... Someone isn't working right.

May be some confusion here:

Whether stock, or ECM is reflashed with improved tune, SGII or any of the DLC monitors will read what ECM is seeing and doing in response to the tune - in the unlikely event that some tuners may fudge the numbers to prevent plagiarism, all bets are off

However, with EDGE and other external offset-box tunes, ECM sees offset data, so SGII sees offset data
