It seems I now have a leak on the power steering oil line! The power steering lines are on the right side of the engine looking forward from the inside - probably the passenger side in the US, driver side over here. My mechanic has been told firstly that they are on backorder with no estimated delivery date, and secondly that the whole set have to be replaced at a cost of £484, as the hoses are not available individually.

Any suggestions? Its a 2005 CRD by the way.

Looking at the parts fiche (http://colorado4wheel.com/manuals/Jeep/KJ/) it appears to me that the PS hoses are the same for the KJ 4cylinder gas and diesel engines but different between LHD and RHD vehicles. Options:
1. source good used hoses from a KJ 4 cylinder gasser or diesel of the appropriate year - keep in mind the same hose PNs may cross several model years; I did not check.
2. on this side of the pond most any decent hydraulic hose shop can rebuild your current hoses (e.g. fit new hose to your current metal ends) for a reasonable price. How quickly I don't know.
3. look for NOS OEM or wait till off back order.

Best be is #2 if available.

From what I know and saw, the 4 cyl gasser PS hose is different than the crd 4 cyl. Crd does not have a cooler, there is a pipe under the front left (us driver side) headlight that acts as a cooler. It's a pain in the butt to replace it as it goes from right to left and back to the steering box. The damper makes all this difficult since it tends to bind at removal. And the grille and headlight assembly must be removed also.

Pic is a bit out of focus, but the measuring tape has over 5 ft. It's I believe a bit over 300 USD from parts.com

Thanks chaps - I'll go with the custom hose if possible. I'll speak to the mechanic on Monday about it.

My power steering fluid leak was stopped in its tracks after pouring this stuff in the bottle

http://lucasoil.com/products/problem-so ... -stop-leak.

The time it took for it to work was about 3 days and it's still holding tight after 4 years now.

It's a cheap fix that works.

racertracer, was your leak from the hose? The Lucas stuff seems to be for the seals.

Ok - I'll get a bottle and see how it goes, HAS to be worth a try pending a new hose!

Quick question - does anyone know if the hoses use standard ends or if they are specific to Jeep?
