I have just filled with my first tank of ULSD and it seems that at about the same time I am getting a whiff, generally at idle (tonight at the bank drive up) of either ULSD exhaust, cat converter or I have a very small coolant leak. If I wasn't driving a new fangled diesel I would think it was a coolant issue but I note no fall in coolant level, I am not getting interior window fogging like I might with a heater core, and it only seems to be noticed while sitting at idle.

Hints? Suggestions? Anyone else notice something similar? Seems to me that my diehard MOPAR freind and a early Liberty gasser buyer did once complain about a crappy heater core so that has me a little concerned.

I think its just the smell of these new diesel engines. My CRD and my buddie's duramax both have a sweet weird smelling exhaust, I'm guessing its because of the cat in the exhaust. It does not smell anything like the old diesel exhaust from even a few years ago.

Yeah, mine smells this neat sweet smell too. I actually like the way it smells, contrary to gasoline fumes.

At idle my CRD has a light sulfuric acid smell. Not sweet, very irritating. Going on a ULSD diet to see if it improves.

I guess I would like to hear if you think it smells like coolant. I would describe what I am smelling as "coolant".

I hadn't really thought about it, but the exhaust off the cat is similar to a coolant smell. I would keep an eye on the coolant level, but that is just a good practice anyway.
