Saw this article this morning about announcements from DC and other car manufacturers today. The CRD GC is still in the future. What struck me as interesting was the comment about the light duty RAM getting a diesel.

Quote:
Zetsche and Tom LaSorda, CEO of Chrysler Group, are expected to announce that Chrysler will next month begin selling heavy-duty Dodge Ram pickups in all 50 states that meet the new standards.

Chrysler also will outline plans to introduce a diesel version of its Jeep Grand Cherokee early this year. And in 2009, Chrysler will begin building turbo-diesel light-duty Ram pickups that will comply with the stricter emissions standards, as well as tough requirements imposed by California and four other states.

Yeah, I saw that info a little while back. Might be a nice powertrain to ave in the future depending on what it turns out to be. My current hemi-powered '06 might have a replacement one of these days... Of course that does depend on how the CRD turns out.

The purported rumor is that the Dakota will get a v6 diesel (approx 3.7L) and the 1500 will have an available v8 diesel (approx 4.7). Attached with that rumor is that they're from Cummins.

With the trouble that some European mfg's has had with 07 models caused by owners are having problems with finding proper ULSD fuel or having engine problems caused by the high sulfur fuel. A perfect example is the soot built up experienced by most of us here in North America that are still using LSD (300 to 500 PPM) in an engine designed for <75 PPM ULSD and the couple of people outside US that are running ULSD (<75 PPM) and not finding any more then a light dusting of soot on the sensor. The other night with a car behind me I tromped the throttle and the exhuast dust I could see was about the same as my Dodge Magnum. The ULSD is sure making a difference in the way the CRD is running, smoother, quiter and seems to have much more power the before the F37. How much this is due to cleaning the boost sensor I am unsure about as I switch to ULSD about the same tme I cleaned the sensor.

There was an article in Diesel World 2 or 3 months back that discussed these engines. CAD drawings, pics, and specs - Apparently Cummins is developing these engines, question is whether or not DC will use them.

I also found some data off an EPA website a few months back where they did testing on these engines, the V6 in a Durango and the V8 in a Ram 1500.

If I remember correctly, the V6 is a 4.2 L, and the V8 is 5.7 L or thereabouts.
