So I purged the air from my fuel filter today. I got air the first 3 times I opened the bleeder. On the fourth diesel came out and I did it one last time just to be sure I got all the air out. From what you guys have seen is this alot or a little of air.

I'd put that in the middle, closer to a little bit of air. I've had to open the bleeder 6 or 8 times back when I had a major leak at the heater connection. It takes a lot of air before it makes it out the discharge of the filter. There is a solid wall aluminum tube running down the middle of the filter that is the discharge. The bottom of the tube where the exiting fuel enters the tube is about 2.5 inches off the bottom of the filter - right in the area where the diameter changes. The air has to be down that far before it can make it out the discharge. Seems to me like they expected to have a lot of air in the system. I basically purge air when I check the oil now. Usually about two openings of the bleeder.
