Hi,

I have an 06 Liberty with about 80K miles on it. It started acting funny about 2 months ago--nothing too dramatic, just smoke and running a little rough at higher speeds (75mph+). Now the Jeep will start cold just fine, but after it's been running more than 10 minutes it won't start back up. The engine cranks, but it won't fire at all. No lights, and no codes found by my usual mechanic or the dealer. It sounds just like this guy's jeep.

The camshaft sensor and lift pump were recently replaced, but the problem came back after another month of driving. I have cleaned the MAP and MAF sensors. The only other thing out of the ordinary is a metalic clacking noise that you can hear during lower rpms that's been there for about 30K miles. Has anyone seen this before?

Thanks!

OK, you are having the exact same symptoms that I had during my frustrating ordeal last winter. :dizzy: I never got any trouble codes either.
I finally traced it down to the Crankshaft Speed Sensor. While testing the old sensor on the work bench with a heat gun blowing on it, the resistance value would start going crazy after heating it up. Haven't had any trouble since replacing it.
You can read through this if you want.

I had the same problem just recently. Turned out to be a faulty injector.
Have the leak down test perfomed to diagnose.
Good luck and I hope you get it fixed in short order.

Hey all,

I pulled the crankshaft speed sensor and tried it out with a heat gun. Didn't see the big spike in resistance like I've seen described. I even got a replacement just in case to compare the resistances. Guess what--they're identical. I'll still need to test the injectors. Have more time now that school's out
