Hey All,

Just want to compliment you on the wealth of information i've obtained through this website. I'm a former VW TDI and the knowledge on this website is just as great as on tdiclub.com

So the subject matter of my first post on here is my new pride and joy (my new 05 liberty CRD). The previous owner took great care of this car and I can only hope to do as well as him. My only pet peeve with the car is the transmission dipstick appears to creep out about half an inch or so. Now I've done my searching and have found it to be a potential vent tube obstruction on the top of the transmission which now needs to be cleaned.

So the question I pose to you all is if there is an easy way to access this tube? I've been under the car a few times and have been unable to identify the tube and where to remove. IS there an easy procedure or would it perhaps be easier to just remove the axle to the front transfer case? Will this alleviate my dipstick problem you think?

Thanks in advance.

Gideon

I won't say that a vent tube obstruction is impossible just unlikely unless you get in deep stuff off road. I've "touched" 4 different CRDs and they all do the same thing plus lots of folks note the problem and comment that the dipstick is a bit too long. I've worm clamped a bit of double side velcro to the tube to tie down the dip stick, problem solved 20K miles ago, others crimp the tube.

Yup, take a pair of pliers and pinch the tube a little.

Awesome thanks for the replies.

So by doing this I won't be over-pressurizing the transmission? Just wanted to make sure. Thanks so much.

I drilled a small vent hole just below my dripstick and cut off about 3/8 inch off the bottom of dipstick and that helped a bit.
