Recently I installed the hayden 2905 and nylon fan after running a few months with out one...Now I read on here after the jeep is warmed up you should not be able to turn the fan? I can still spin it with out any resistance...did I get a bad clutch?

Where did you read that?

The viscous clutch doesn't engage until the engine is overheating, it spins freely in normal operating conditions (thus saving power and fuel). If you haven't already, download a copy of the Factory Service Manual for your rig from this Forum and search for "viscous", the FSM gives good information on how these viscous fan clutches work.

It should still turn unless you are running super hot under the hood.

The Hayden clutch runs disengaged under normal circumstances although in the real world there is probably enough residual resistance that the mechanical fan will spin at lower rpms when the clutch is disengaged. The Hayden will engage (I cannot say whether engaging is an all or nothing thing) based on the air temperature off all that "stuff" in the air flow in front on the engine and that air temp is about 30F below block coolant temp. Given that the "stuff" has heat inputs from the radiator, intercooler, and AC condensor I suspect the Hayden kicks in at a coolant temp on the order of 205F give or take which is fairly early in any block temperature rise when compared to the OEM clutch which, when it works, IIRC engages at more like 225-230F.

Hayden works great, these are made to spin free until the wax pellet heats up and clutch starts working. One way to check warm the jeep all way up then try stop fan with newspaper if you can stop it then it's bad. At least this is what bmw guy's do and sure it's same not sure if paper will fit in there though my wrists have scars.
