Got a new to me 2006 KJ Limited CRD w/99k miles. Currently doing timing belt and water pump now but will eventually be investigating egr status and tune information. I have no service history on this one, its nice and clean inside and under the hood and I see no visible mods. What is the easiest way to determine if the ecm is running a tune?

I filled it up and drove it 300 miles highway at 70 or so mph to get it home and it was saying 33 mpg with a refill hand calc of 31.9, only about a half tank, but isn't that high for the stock tune? I have only put about 500 miles on it because that belt is 12 years old and I don't trust it, so that is the priority, will have it completed tomorrow unless unforseen things interrupt me.

I really like it, kind of sounds like a little tractor.

Your very own hwy Kubota!

If you contact GDE, they can tell you if it's one they provided a tune for, as everything is individual to VIN.

You can check for a puck. Giveaway is the connector splice between OEM loom and the Fuel Pressure Sensor, and another at the MAP sensor. If it's there, follow the leads to find the puck location.

If your MAF sensor is disconnected, and you have no MIL light and corresponding DTC code, your tune has been changed

If your EGR is disconnected or missing, and you have no MIL light and corresponding DTC code, your tune has been changed

If your FCV is disconnected or missing, and you have no MIL light and corresponding DTC code, your tune has been changed

If NO GDE tune, and no puck, you can do the redneck check
save your existing tune, download and save the proper OEM tune from from the DIY page. Write the downloaded tune in.

If you feel no difference to drive it, it probably has the stock tune.

I'm sure there are other ways for the more computer literate.

On a cold start how high do the rpm's go? A GDE tune will bring them well over 1200 or 1300.
The mpgs you mention sound about right for flat hwy at 70 with a stock tune and pretty low rolling resistance tires.

Sent off vin to GDE. I just finished up the timing belt/water pump service along with both front motor mounts. Its 2 am here and I started about 9:00 this morning. Constant interuptions all day, Fridays are usually quiet but not today. It has 100k miles and the belt was a goodyear original, it didn't look to bad at first but then I noticed the cracks on the outside and the tensioner was about 3/8 from where it should have been so I guess it had some stretch going on. The motor mounts were both bad, they both sounded like a can of rocks when I shook them. The motor mount job was easier than I expected only took about an hour and a half withmost of the time spent on the driver side bottom. That got rid of a lot of noise.

It's amazing that a motor mount can rattle like a can of bolts! One of mine was the same way when replaced...
