Strange...the cover of the ECM on my 2002 Export 2.5 CRD is grounded direct to chassis via its mounting bolts so the internals of the ECM should be protected.
If you remove the Starter relay and briefly jumper pins 30 and 87 together inside the relay socket the engine should turn over....provided Fuse #8 40 A under the hood is good!
This bypasses the Park and Neutral interlock as well as the Ignition Switch and Actuator Pin assembly.
You may also have blown the Fusable Link which is the thick wire that goes from the Alternator to the Red terminal on the battery...this would stop the battery from charging but should not affect turning the motor over unless the battery is flat.
