Yes, I have and it was documented here on lost when installing ARP head studs.
Done just as you described. I used a 2 hole gasket and ARP studs when i rebuilt my top end.

Hi 03,

I did a search, obviously not thorough enough, before the post I put out there on the Coppercoat tip and didn't see your previous one. How did using the Coppercoat in that way work out for you? I remember we had good results with it, but it all involved much larger and harder-worked turbo'd diesels (Cats/Cummins/Detroits/etc).

I'm at the point of re-installing the head on my CRD, after putting in new exhaust valves and ARPs. Here in various posts, and on the info sheet that came with the head gasket, there's mention of using no sealers, hence my remembering the tip from years ago.

Thanks again,

Steve

So far it has worked out great. Not much work involved, its a small engine and I barely used half a small can of the coppercoat. Sprayed both sides of the gasket with nice light even coat and let it dry, sprayed the block with a light coat let it dry to the touch, then put down the gasket, then laid the head down on top, then installed the ARP studs.

I have put on 30K miles on the top end rebuild using the coppercoat and ARP head studs and not had any problems.

I have used Hylomar in the same way with a lot of success.
Similar engines. Even reused HG's.
The black coating on the HG is just black paint.
