darn fuel prices

I filled the CRD and it was $167.07 for a tank! Man I am getting tired of this quick.

I've seen it jump from $3.79 to $3.91 just overnight.

No diesel on post here and the place I can use coupons is no where close to here.

Although I saw it cheap at a truck stop, only $3.99

Oh Yeaa except I couldn't fill up at the truck stop because of the filler neck not allowing the high flow nozzle . Well when I got home THAT CHANGED. Pulled the Plastic insert out of the neck and used a dremel tool to shave enough off to get the bigger filler neck in.

Did DC expect us to run around the creation to find and automotive style low pressure filler. GEEZ

You have to appreciate the fact that big rigs need 125 to 200 + to fill while our little tractors take 20 or less.
I have stopped at some as you and had the same problem. Darn nozzle to big. I just avoid those stops anymore
and stop at a more friendly place, for our little rigs.

I just paid $3.99 in CA, usually we are higher than other states but it looks like the prices are getting more even. Yesterday, some distance off US10 I paid $3.71 for LSD (not ULSD) didn't know it was still around. Ran good, seems like it got better mileage than ULSD.

Bumped up to 3.79 (cheapest) in two days. I will nver get rid of my Jeep CRD but the 50cc 2 Stroke Scooter I just bought is the reason. I can ride it half the time I would have been in my Jeep CRD. It is saving me "bundles"!!!

If I had to do it again I would have looked in Craigslist.org and found a used one 8 months ago. The small investment is recouped so fast it is silly.

Jeep CRD...............................21.37mpg (11.0L/100km)
Lambretta DUE50....................118.4mpg (1.98L/100km)

Jeep-Lambretta HYBRID...........34.91mpg (6.73L/100km)

That is a 66% increase in mpg...and getting better. I drive 80% and greater City so this is a huge jump.

Stations are doing a bit of price manipulation as well. Last night, B5 bio blend was $3.89 at an Astro filling station in North Portland, on a busy main street. 1.5 miles away, B20 was $3.69 at Jubitz truck stop way off the main drag.

Just remember... the CRD's doing better than the 3.7L in terms of cost....even with the fuel costing more. Just do the math on it

That said, with what knowledge is available on the forums... might be time to try and locate a Biodiesel cooperative in your area. Often they sell fuel below the market price, and if you can volunteer some time (they love people with Jeeps, cause often they need large items moved that require a chain and 4x4) they may even give discounts!

So, I tried to fill up last night from an empty tank and COULDN'T because the county that I stopped in has a dollar-limit cap on how much you can purchase (in my case, the pump turned itself off at $75). :evil:

At least I was only a gallon shy of full.

Jet A (AVTUR) is still a bit higher priced here than Diesel and you have to add something to improve lubricity to Jet A or you will have increased wear.

Yeah Jet-A in higher my area also but I'm lucky enough to have access to all the sump fuel I need from the aircraft I maintain. You are right Jet-A is dryer than #2 diesel. It has mostly the same lubricity as #1 diesel so I add Stanadyne Lubricity Forumla. It is design to treat Jet-A, ultra-low sulphur, kerosene or #1 diesel. So no worry of increased wear. I buy it in a 5 gallon pail that treats 5000 gallons. I add a little more than required but can't complain with free fuel.

No kidding. Some station are changing the price on what they already have in their storage tanks within minutes of the latest oil price increase on Wall Street.

Two days ago, I spoke with Ranger1. He went to a car wash beside a super Wal-Mart that sold diesel. When he pulled in, the price for diesel was $3.59. Glancing at the news report on their TV, he saw where the price of crude had spiked up $3 that morning. Going back outside, he watched them changing the price up to $3.79 on what they already had in the tanks, literally within minutes of the price spike on Wall Street.

You might do better with a good ashless 2 stroke oil, or 2% biodiesel for lubricity. Stanadyne is not that effective.
