How do you kill the ESP in a 2006 CRD? (Not just pushing the button)Not just pulling the ABS Fuse, just killing the ESP ONLY.

It's the only way to 100% turn it off though.

What about somehow wiring up a switch that would fool the computer in thinking that your 4 lo...alot of ESP stuff gets disabled in the mode from what i have experienced. I have been thinkning about that but have not had time to try it out.

Anybody out there thats done that or willing to try ?

I just came here and searched to ask just about the same question. I've been doing lots of field work in a company 06 liberty with some AT2s. It has that ESP junk that is nice and all for snow if you don't know what you're doing but it sucks offroad. I once got one sunk in mud because when I realized that the field I had just driven into was too muddy for the jeep, it wouldn't spin the wheels when I nailed the gas and just sat there and sank in while I had to press a button to shut off the stupid system. Anyways, I hate how it comes on every time you turn the vehicle on. Can I program it to be off at every key cycle, and turned on as an option?? Don't get me wrong, I would use it on the highway in bad weather.

Also, can do you need the dealer to make it so that the doors don't automatically lock when you go above 15?

In 4LO most of the features are turned off anyway...including ABS and Rollover Mitigation. TC is still there and helps in traction department.

These aren't trails that require 4lo per se, well maybe in some spots, but they are muddy in spots and I hate having to remember to turn that thing off even when I'm in 4!! Oh well.

I've found even pushing the button off, it still seems to do the same thing. Mine doesn't seem to turn off.

Anyone else???

Why don't you want to have traction control in the mud? It's like a set of poor mans lockers. XJMA: spinning the wheels in mud is the fastest way to get stuck.

Yes, but as far as I know, it can only be done by the dealer.

Someone posted how to do it a couple years back, good luck searching the site for it. It involved sacrificing a chicken and taking on and off the seat belt a bunch of times... and some other things.

Check the owners manual. I am pretty sure that is where I found the instructions when I turned mine off.

Have found some instructions for disarming the 2005 Grand Cherokee system. This worked on my CRD

NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. The manufacturer does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlertTM)

1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, and fasten the driver's seat belt.

2. Start the engine, and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle, unbuckle and re-buckle the driver's seat belt at least three times, ending with the seat belt buckled.

4. Turn off the engine. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlertTM) can be re-activated by repeating this procedure.

I am a big fan of ESP and I've wheeled in every terrain from coast to coast.
