I have not reset my mileage on the evic in 3400 miles. 29.8 is showing on the computer now. Here is the strange part. As I let the mileage accumulate, I expected the fluctuation in mpg to become more stable. Last friday, I pulled into the garage showing 31.5 mpg. Over the weekend, I hauled a trailer for a couple of trips to the HomeDepot. When I left out this morning, my computer was showing 25.6. Now in less that 1 tank, I'm back to near 30 accumulated mpg. ...
The EVIC does not supply a perpetual average from the time of last reset. If it did we might be able to get a reasonable lifetime average. I'm not sure of the time/distance of the "average" the EVIC uses but I can easily make up for 50 miles of street driving running errands on the weekend with a few days of driving the highway to work (maybe another 60 miles).

It doesn't really seem to be an average. It appears to just increment/decrement the MPG estimate based on sampling a few variables to distinguish between lead-footing it and driving frugally. The final result is usually wildly different (higher) than reality -- on my CRD the smallest gap seen between the EVIC and hand calculating is 2MPG.

It it ULSD that they are selling now? Whacker's?

If they have the seat extention ready at Micsh's 4x4 in time I will be driving the CRD to MI for the big GTG at Marty's. Will you be showing up with the CRD?

My BP is still on winter fuel and ULSD. I am 8 hours from Whackers, 3 hours above Green Bay Wisconsin.
I am hoping to go there, also looking at a GTG in Fondulac Wis on the 28th of April.

So far on first full tank since ORM - 182 miles and still on 7/8 full!

Oil is also still clear enough to read the dipstick markings.

And no, this is not an April Fool's.

I have filled up twice so far. Both times I got 27 mpg in about 60% highway and 40% city driving.

I think my CRD had the F37 done to it when I got it new. If it shifted into 5th at 55 mph I could even do better.
Problem is on the beltway I can not always maintain a constant speed over 60 mph to keep it in 5th.

This is still 4 to 5 MPG above where I was.

I also installed an AeroTurbine 2525 muffler a week ago. The muffler makes the engine run much smoother and I can feel some additional power.

I am looking forward to a straight highway run where I can go over 400 miles to see my milage.

Note: my previous winter/wife around town mileage of 22mpg needs to include a 15k mi dirty airfilter!

Turns out if you don't specifically ASK for an air filter change, the normally smart guy at my local will just shake it out, even though he has the service schedule I give him. ARGH.

Anyway, should be better by at least 1 mpg.

It may be that if I were to unplug mine for off road and plugged it back in that the CEL would clear by itself.
In one starting cycle. (surprise).
Hypothetically, I'm told.

I had a senior moment the other day and forgot to check the MPG's on the Jeep.
I guess the excitement of buying the little MB 300D rattled my tree.

I have no noticable improvement of mpg. Which sucks. But I cant seem to make the little guy smoke anymore. How can this possibly be? At night -for kicks- I would sneak in front of lesser suvs (hummer h3s were a fave) and floor it. Ha ha- they would get covered in smoke. Now - with the orm- I try the same thing- and only a little puff comes out. Can it be that I've actually made the car more environmentally sound with the ORM?

With the ORM you are putting more NOx into the air but less Particle Matter. It would be interesting to the % change? I would rather add a "urea system" to take care of the NOx and keep the ORM to reduce the PM.

Should add I'm doing two things different now along with the ORM.

One, I've started using Lucas Fuel Treatment along with the ORM. Made a noticeable difference by the second tank on the '87 MB, close to 2 MPG improvement (you listening, Walt?). Stuff seems to work well in gas vehicles as well. My father picked up over 1 MPG over 2 tanks in his '98 F-150 with a Triton V8. We added some to my mother's '02 Montero Sport without her knowing - at the end of the week she was asking us what the devil we'd done to her vehicle - it ran quiet, didn't hesitate off the line any more, and still had gas left past the point she'd normally fill up.

Second, I'm using a different tactic with OD Lockout. Instead of turning OD back on as soon as I hit the 55 mph section of my commute, I've been leaving it locked out and letting it rev up where it will. With the winding secondary roads, multiple stops, and traffic on the way into work, wasn't gaining anything by turning OD back on. Only time I turn it back on now is when I have a long downhill and it's basically coasting, or when I have a long stretch where I know I'll be 55 mph or above for a while.

With the ORM, this beast seems quite happy living above 2000 rpm.

Been using L.F.T. in everything for a while now. Only product that Lucas makes that's worthwhile in my estimation. Just besure not to overdose - no added benefits that I can determine...

I've gained 1 mpg or so since the ORM mod.

Don't hardly believe this myself, but -

456 miles, and on the fat side of one hash mark above 1/4 tank. This bloody thing is going to do a 500 mile tank just running around town!

You guys are going to hate my guts.

515 miles and 1/8 tank left, no low fuel light yet, all local driving and commuting to work.

I can see joining the 600 Mile club on a long interstate trip.

Who needs a TDI anyway?

Ok, since you gave permission, I hate your guts. ;-P

Prior to ORM my best "average" was 440 miles on a tank down to the fuel light coming on.

My last complete tank driven on the ORM was just over 465 miles. It seems to have gained just over 1 mpg. (Of course, the EVIC continually taunts me, telling me I'll get over 500 miles out of the tank.)

I just got back from a trip to NYC in serious monsoon conditions. I was seriously worried about a wet airfilter with the rain just dumping on us, and traffic splashing up waves of stuff right up over the hood. Went there and back mostly in 4 wheel full-time, pretty slow going down, hitting 50 mph headwinds...and burning rubber coming back mostly 70+. Hit the 300 mile mark getting in the driveway and its just a tad below 1/2 tank. That's just plain psycho good mileage. Can't wait to re-fill and calculate. Don't know if it is still winter diesel but it is nice that diesel is cheaper than gas.

Forded 1.5 foot water on the "closed" flooded west-side highway. Since this baby-pram hasn't gotten much mud time, does that count as "off-roading"?

now, to got get the water out of the basement.... :(
